Default fuel pressure regulator

Hi Guys

I have just ordered a new fuel pressure regulator for my 1987 928S4.

I have taken off the airbox and noticed that it is not going to be as easy as I thought. The difficulty appears to be the fuel hose connection that goes to the damper. It is squashed behind the MAF.

What is the easiest way to remove and replace the FPR? any tips?

Is it easier to just remove the FPR and damper all together ?

Also am I likey to leak fuel everywhere? do I need to block any fuel hoses?

Thanks in anticipation.

Its easier to drain the fuel resident in the lines by removing the small hose at the front of the engine from the damper and catch the fuel there; I used the plastic top of a paint spray can.

Yes its easier to do the FPR change if you remove it and the rear damper together; then you can get at fuel lines also which should be replaced. Remember to counter hold the lines as you remove them.

Do I need to remove the MAF in order to do this ?

The MAF should just pull out (there is a direction arrow on the bottm so you wont mix it up)then you disconnect the harness its easy .You will need a 17mm and 19 mm wrench and counterhold the FPR connections, I suggest to use some antiseize on the threads when you reassemble. The FPR is on the rear of the passenger side fuel rail. You should also consider replacing all of the fuel lines there are 4 of them . The feed line over the pass cam cover the front connector between the fuel rails (over the water bridge), the curved line between the rear fuel rails and the return line that goes to the fuel cooler at the rear of the engine

Some good advice here because a 20 plus year old fuel hose may not like being moved about. I have seen too many burned cars over the last 15 years ! We just bought another crispy S-4 yesterday.
