Damaged clutch disc

My local Porsche dealer organized sort of a technical club meeting where you could take your stuff and ask questions aboout it. Because I still did not understand the way the two clutch discs should be adjusted to keep the intermediate plate right in the middle (I still don't understand that bit), I decided to take the cluthc and pressureplate to the meeting. The boss himself tried to explain to me that there really isn't anything to adjust. He showed me the functioning of the pressureplate and cluth discs by putting it all in a vice, against my advice to do so. Result: he broke a piece of the cluthc disc #2 (see picture). He said that this wouldn'y affect the proper functioning of the clutch. I commented by saying that driving one of his new Porsches wouldn't be affected if it had a large scratch on the side too. He offered to find another used clutch disc #2 for me, but he sis not succeed. Now he offers me to replace the wearing surface (put on new friction material). Is this the right thing to do? Should I give the #1 disc the same treatment?

You MUST adjust the intermediate plate the springs where they attach to the outer housing are riveted in place BUT the hole is slotted. As the disc next to the flyweel wears these slots allow the intermediate plate to move toward the fly wheel. If you install a new friction disc it will be too thick and the clutch will not disengage completely. The design allows it to self adjust toward the flywheel but it will not self adjust backwards, so the installer must do this. The small chunk missing from the friction disc will not be noticable in operation in my opinion.
