81 wont start/ 82 to hot
81 euro wont start when the is driven and gets tempertured but starts fine in the morning or being sitting for a few hours.
82 runs at high tempertured after new water pump was installed along with new belts, with old water pump temp. was on the first line with the new pump runs on second line want to know why. I was going to sharks on the mountains but i did not think i would make it.

On the "82" Did you put in the wrong thermostat with a higher rating, I've had a auto shop sell me a thermostat but when I tested it before installing it actually was opening at a much higher temp than it was rated for. Wasn't sure if someone had mixed up a loose one and put it in the wrong package? If your using the old one, maybe it is failing and not opening at the correct temp. Hope its an easy fix on both.....

on the 82 make sure you have the proper coolant/h2o mix. Also check to see if you have corrotion around the temp sender to the gauge. Since so much stuff gets disturbed with a waterpump job double check your connectors are seated properly and corrosion free.

Depending on the coolant I think you want a 50/50 or 60/40 coolant/h2o mix. I use 50/50 w/water wetter and that seems to be a good mix. Did you drain the block completely or was there some residual coolant in the system? Someone more knowledgeable than myself would know if this is where your temp gain has come from. I learned the coolant/h2o ratio importance on an oldsmobile in the midwest so mileage may vary on a 928.

That's a LOT of coolant. Read the bottle to see what concentration you need for your winter protection, and use as little as possible. IIRC 50/50 is as high as you should go, and that's more than adequate in the lower 46. Maybe MI, MN, MT, and upstate NY might need that much. Just follow the guidelines on the bottle.
Next... Where did you get the water pump? Several folks have purchased or inherited some Chinese knock-off that have shown up on Ebay. Impellors spin on the shafts (actually shaft spins in the impellors...) and the result is overheating. Thermostat -may- be a problem, but if it was working before there's no reason it shouldn't work now.
Be sure to burp and bleed the system. With the nose as uphill as you can practically get it, run the engine to warm, heatr turned on full hot, to cause all vapors in the system to end up at the water bridge and the top of the radiator, to push through the vent hoses to the reservoir.

the 928 is a self bleeding coolant system, to make this work simply remove the coolant bottle cap and turn the heater on, run the car till it gets hot and the fans come on. Install the coolant cap then drive it for about 5 miles with the heater on, let cool then top up if necessary.
Coolant level should be just above the coolant bottle seam ,just over half. Also make sure that you have replaced the seal that goes behind the Thermostate, it is about the same diameter as a dollar coin and taps into the water bridge
