all was fine when i replaced a very very trashed fuel sender in my 85 euro .
now i have no speedometer ( which was not exactly working correctly before )
it would not move smoothly and the trip odometer never worked before. The gears in the speedo look great . the circuit board looks really good.
the fuel gauge works when it is hot.
any ideas.

Does your cruise control work? If so, your problem is most likely in the cluster. If not, this test doesn't narrow things down much.
If it's the latter case, you may have disturbed the connector in the tire well that sends the speedo pulse. Check there, if all looks good jack up the rear end, pull connector "R" from the CE panel and connect a continuity checker(most DMMs have a mode where the meter beeps when contact is made) between R12 and R13 on the plug, and see if those terminals are connected/disconnected as you rotate the rear wheels. If they are, the problem will need to be traced toward the cluster. If they are not, trace back to the sensor(including the connector in the spare compartment.
If you don't want to pull plug "R" from the CE panel for this test, disconnect the battery for this test as you may inadvertently turn the key on and blow the meter.
