I recently picked up a couple of cans of CRC "Freeze-Off" from the local auto parts store.
According to the directions on the can, it's a penetrating oil that immediately drops the temperature of the area in direct contact. The freezing effect "cracks" rusted surfaces allowing the penetrating oil to go deeper into the rusted connection.
I haven't used it yet, but maybe it's worth a try.

Seems like it would be difficult to do an "apples to apples" test breaking rusted fasteners free -- key is getting all test fasteners to rust equally. Still, with breakaway torque being 1/10 that of the "no lubrication" case vs 1/5 for the next best option, this looks like a must-try. Acetone, check. ATF, check. Now I just need to wait for the next rusty bolt to attack. ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Stan, be careful with the heat -- if you heat the bolt to blood red that's already 1000°F, dangerously close to the melting/plastic point of aluminum. Might be better to drill, pick, then chase threads at this point.

additive du jour, which is now ethanol! Cure world hunger at the same time we res!ore 15% of our fuel economy lost
"Jacques Diouf, director-general of the Food and Agriculture Organisation, told heads of state and governments gathered in Rome that "nobody" understood why cereals had been diverted from human consumption "mostly to satisfy a thirst for fuel vehicles".

That 'nobody' is Archer-Daniels-Midland in the US, which has managed to become the largest middle-man in grain and feed production and marketing. They squeeze both sides of the chain around them, making both growing and finished-product ends of the business barely profitable. When there was nothing left to squeeze from farmers, they lobbied for government subsidies to avoid dipping into their own margins to keep things going their way. the subsidies fly in the face of maost US policies on tarrifs and trade restrictions, things the US hammers at relentlessly when they limit the US' ability to penetrate foreign markets. At the same time, it would make so much more sense to import sugar at world market prices, or directly import ethanol; sadly, both of those options violate current US trade policy.

Now back to your regularly-scheduled non-political discussion.
Good news! ATF prices are not following the raw oil price spikes. Yet. Stock up now before the hoarders get it all!!!!

I broke two on my water pump and used a timesert, not that bad to do, and it is in there rock solid.
I used two different sized bits to drill out the bolt then the timesert kit to retap and add the new insert. You have one shot at this and you must hold your drill stright!

I am done with heating program, no heat that i could generate has worked to remove any of these bolts.
So I have gotten one of the bolts drilled out and a Heli Coil inserted, The bolt that has the helicoil was the sheared off one > I want to use something better than a Heli so i am on the hunt for a Timesert or other better fastener repair system.
I wound up using the old water pump as a drill guide it seemd to work out OK

final stuck bolt update...... I had to drill out 2 of 3 of the screws the last one actually broke free when i reposisioned the vice grips as i was not concerned about breaking the bolt off. I did use the old water pump for a drill guide and the Heli coil seems to have worked.. next.......
