The Texas crew is on the road, were overnighting about 30 miles East of Nashville Tenn. Would have made it a lot further if it wasn't for John (soon-to-be-red). He's nursing a bad MAF and getting about 2 miles to the gallon (yes at $4.00+ a gallon), a flat tire, a dead battery from airing the tire after he was told to start the car before airing a tire with the nail still in it, and just a general PITA!

Didn't I read somewhere that one of the travelling groups had a string-patch kit for tires along with them? I'm starting to think about adding one to my travelling toolkit after grabbing a screw in a tire a few blocks from home. Close enough to limp back for the temporary fix anyway. Too late to get Jim B to overnight a MAF to John at the hotel. Doesn't take many 2MPG miles at $4+/gal to justify the overnight/before 10am shipping ding. Plus driving while pouring all that fuel through there means you can roast smores anywhere within six feet of the cats. Can't someone help this poor man???

We had a tire plug kit that worked very well. Have discussed overnighting a MAF to SITM for the drive back. The odd thing is sometimes it works well and his milage is equal to the rest of us. He's been fixing it with 75% success by pulling to the side of the road and shutting it down then restarting. Usually works then somewhere down the road it slips into F'd/U mode.

Ensconced on the TN/NC border ready for the twisties to Banner Elk 'morrow.
Didn't think I needed to travel with my iffy old MAF for a spare.
But 2mpg sure gives that fool gauge needle a sinking feeling.

I can just see the news monday morning. Crude oil price spikes due to unexpected demand for
gasoline in the US.
