Default fitting rear ac?

Anyone retro-fitted rear ac to a 928? Parts availability? cost?

I don't know of anyone who's added it to a car. A couple of guys have removed the rear ac. And that can be quite a challenge. Otherwise I would have removed mine long ago.

Err - I wouldn't even think about it... it doesn't boost total cooling in worst case conditions... it can cool the car faster in cases when the compressor & condenser aren't the limiters - but that's not when you really need it....

Overall I think it was more marketing gimick than an elegant engineering solution -controls are also rather prooly integrated with the front system IMO.

This is actually an amusing exercise in PETting. To install rear air, you need every piece on this photograph (page 338 of the '87-91 PET), plus a different center console insert (928.552. 047 09, for the M570 option), and the rear console piece and associated grilles (Second picture, page 277) . I don't know if the dash wiring harness in a non-rear A/C car already has the wiring/connections for the rear blower control and switch in place or if you'd need to add those too. There's also a drain hose for the rear evaporator that I don't see on this diagram.

A whole basketcase donor car would probably be cheaper than all these parts bought individually.

Oh, and the engine needs to come out to install pipes #1 AND 2 on the PET diagram below. #1 can be done with the engine in, #2, no way.

In other words, a complete PITA.

If you want little extra cooling in the cabin you could always open the glovebox.

What? Another 928 owner in Dubai? I'm surprised P Cars / Nabooda would have imported 928s here without rear A/C. Private import maybe? Do tell more...
