Hey crew -

I have been away for a couple years, but just bought my 2nd 928. It's a 1988s4 black with black interior. I'm really on the crazy side for doing it. I am a full time student (again) with no money, and I HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN THE CAR! I know. I know. But I couldn't help myself. It was good deal and near me. It runs but has been off the road for two years, needs bodywork, has NO RECORDS, and I can't pick it up until I finish a grueling set of comprehensive exams (which will put me one step closer to the PsyD I am after) on June 12th.

First up, anyone know where to look for a used tail lens and front fog lens (don't even know which side (I think passenger tail and driver fog)?

Second, Is there a way to check out the VIN (WP0JB0922JS860569)?

Thanks guys,
GW Krauss

I'll be the first to wish you good luck!

Congrats on the purchase and I hope it all works out for you and the new shark. Welcome back.

You haven't seen the car, it needs body work, it's been sitting 2 years, and it has no records!!!
Oh well, since this is your 2nd 928, you ought to know what you're in for!!

If no one else here has those parts, check ebay. I noticed both there yesterday.

Welcome back to section 928 of the asylum...
...always room for one more.

Sounds like fun.. was your first 928 a 32V too?

I drove my car last night for the first time in a few weeks.. finally completed the last of the mechanical work (engine mounts and oil pan) after 9 months of intermittent working on it alternating with driving it. It now drives like a totally different car to when I got it, and I'm still smiling this morning even after a drive through rush hour traffic! I bought it from a guy in another country, and didn't get to see it for the first 3 months of ownership (shipping, customs, import permits etc.)

Now my mind is starting to turn towards a second 928 to work on while I just focus on driving this one

My hero! Ha ha...

I'm considering dropping a bomb on the wife about a dirt bike I want to buy, its a steal and I can't afford not to buy it! She's gonna be pissed if I even mention it. What to do, what to do (hand wringing, hand wringing...)?

And oh yeah, congrats on the purchase. Sometimes you just gotta wing it and hope for the best. You only live once.

Thanks for the support guys. Ed - from your description, I am afraid we have married the same woman!

Anyone know how to check the vin? I feel like people used to be able to do it for free. Or has that changed?

i bought one of my three 928s sight unseen for $2000 i was getting it just for parts and it turned out to be better than the one i was driving at the time even came with an extra full set of good tires
one of the others i went to see it first and bought it on the spot only to find out later it had another $3000 worth of parts stashed in boxes inside it and i only paid 2800 for the whole deal so buying a car sight unseen with no documents can sometimes work out even better than u expect u just have to remember that its still a 30 yr old car and is going to have time and neglect issues its never going to be a perfect car unless u put some time and money into it and having people here to help out when u get stuck makes it even easier good luck my friend and welcome back
