Personally, I think the car is worth about $10k in full working condition. Unfortunately, the AC and the odometer are going to kill your valuation as people will discount for these items. $2k for AC and $500 for the odometer. That leaves you with $7,500.

You might get away without doing the TBelt. You should be able to fix your AC for between $500~$1,00 yourself. The odometer should be $50 or less for that little gear (assuming that's the issue). Fix these and you shoudl be able to get back up to $10k-ish.

As a buyer it is worth $1 (legal mininum selling price in AL and just because I want to pay the minimum possible), as a seller its worth $12k.

You know eight years ago or so I bought the old very brown 1980 for just under $2,000 it was a pretty nice car odo inop. Had some paint work done in the past which faded. Guess what , that was 8 years ago so what SHOULD an 87 be worth today ?? I have said for years that an S-4 SHOULD be worth $5,000 more than an early car.....my vote is $7,000. The best place to advertise a 928 is E-bay BUT "staging" is everything , shoot the photos in front of a very attractive EXPENSIVE house , have all the tools in the tool kit shown in the photos. Fix the odometer (do a car fax to see what is on record to avoid a mistake). When all else fails sell it to Roger He is betting his 401K will out perform the stock market ! at least 0-60 MPH.

+1 This worked for me (except the expensive house part). You will be surprised how many local buyers are interested and all it takes is one or two serious parties to get the car sold.

Ryan P just bought a 1990 S-4 in San Antonio that was advertised for about $8,000 . It was discussed on rennlist a couple times. That is a real sale.

Jim, yes it was a real sale. However, there are some underlying factors in this sale that I hope that Ryan is ok with.

I don't think that this sale here in SA is representative of the value of this threads car.

Ebay the car at no reserve and no buy it now. It will bring a good offer than. I can't believe some of the prices the rat bags go for. It's a nice car no doubt! I have a 87 Cassirot for sale but I just did the t-belt, waterpump, and rollers and I have a guy looking at it this weekend. Listed it on craigslist for $9500 with 100k on the clock. AC blows cool but not ice cold. Hope this helps.

He may be LOOKING at $9,500 but what is he going to OFFER ?? I think few people expect to pay the OFFERING price especially on Craigs list unless of course it is a certified bank check for too much money and all you need do is pay the "shipping"... I am not saying your kid is ugly but until the title changes hands there is no way to know what it is really worth. The depreciation is still happening with 928s with only low milage very, very nice cars showing some pretty good numbers but they are the exception.

I agree, fix the A/C and odometer then sell it on eBay. It may take a few listings until a buyer finds it.

It is a nice looking car without a doubt. DIYS TB/WP will run you about $500.

Could be, but on the phone when I spoke to him I was firm on my price and not waste each others time. I have all year to find the right buyer so I'm in no hurry. I guess the point of my post is I'm getting bites at $9500 which leads me to believe I have the car priced OK. We could argue all day what something is worth but it boils down what someone is willing to pay..

I say fix the odometer and leave the price as-is.

Moomba Outback, 350 Chevrolet with 310 HP. 320 hours. 1 owner. Adult driven.
Can pull at least 10 skiers up at once or drag 3 bassboats backwards util they sink.
Like a mini cigarette. Saturday delivery. Ski, Wakeboard and Barefoot lessons included until you are comfortable. (You feed the 25 year old until that time.)
Title directly to him and tell him to get a job as he leaves your driveway in the S4.

C'mon, don't let me hijack Mike's thread with my stupid boat talk.

Mike, is the car just not right for you, is it really a Benz you are desiring?

(I think you mentioned that recently in another thread.)

The 928 seems to be an unknown vehicle in this particular regonal market and tend agree with others that another approach is needed if you need or want to sell.

Again, I hope you get whatever price you need/want for this pretty car and am willing to help you or participate on a team to help you with tweaking the car if that will help. Have enjoyed your videos of the car in action and appreciate your clear sincerity in this selling endeavor.

Jim,
This house sold a F250, Dodge Viper, and a friends Viper, (quickly on Ebay) but just didn't seem to help with the 928. I had it on ebay, best offer I had was 8500 and the guy backed out before he even saw the car. (that was before the bent valves)

Wish it was my house!

Then, you need to add a sunbather to the balcony.
