Default Crank Position Sensor

Can anyone tell me where exactly the crank position sensor is located on an 82 928 (auto)? It was suggested to me that a bad crank case sensor could be preventing my fuel system from operating, so I want to check it.

Thanks!

I don't think the OBs have them, but I could be wrong.

And probably am.....

There is a crank sensor on some older models but it is for factory reference only. Do a search for the pump relay. Explain the condition.

if this is a US spec there is no crank position sensor. There is a green wire that goes from the dist to the "brain". If you are not getting fuel check the fuse (forgot number) and relay. If you do a search there is a way to use a "jumper" to make sure the fuel pump is operating.

The crank sensor is there, it's just not used. Check fuse 22. Relay XVII is for fuel pump. If you remove relay and jump terminals 30 and 87, the pump should run if pump, wiring and power at ce panel is good. This is the first step for a no fuel diagnosis. The green wire is for the ignition system and goes from the distributor to the ignition module/transistorized ignition box.

My OB is a 86.5. It has 2 CPS; one for LH brain timing and one for service reference. Earlier OB's might be CIS or L-Jetronic. Their configurations will likely be different.BTW: Be VERY careful in handlling originally equipped (20+ year old) CPS connectors...as they tend to disintegrate on handling.

The crank position sensor with the grey wire (911 606 108 00 - NLA) starts in '83 or '84. It is only used by the factory, and can be removed for better access.

The fuel pump relay on L-Jet cars is $pecial (rpm limiter built in), and is often the problem. Also, the alarm system disables the fuel pump, and can be a problem. Put a jumper in place of the relay, and see if the problem goes away.

On LH2.2, the EZ-F controls the fuel pump relay. It has to get a good rpm signal before it turns on the fuel pump. I think this may be why 85-86 have to crank for what seems like forever before they start.

Well tuned L-Jet feels like it fires on the first rev.

The 82 has no crank sensor but as mentioned the distributor pulses and sends the signal down the green wire to the spark box as well as to the tach and fuel pump relay telling the relay that the engine is running and it is O K to keep the fuel pump running. As a test power up the fuel pump either with a jumper wire in place of the relay or a wire from the battery directly to the fuel pump +(only for a very short time as you could flood teh engine with fuel if an injector is leaky) . You can also jumper the coil with power + from the jump post under the hood right to the small + on the coil (but only for a short time as a test). Very often the cause of no start or dies is Relay, Relay, Relay.....The alarm unit is just a fancy relay
