I would take Rob up on his offer!

I agree with Ryan, Rob is a very knowledgeable 928 owner, who does not hesitate to assist other 928 owners with they vehicles. He has assisted me on several occasions If you are at all entertaining keeping your 928, take Rob up on his offer. PerryS4 like you has posted that he is on the verge of selling his 928, but some recent visits to Rob's seems to have reduced his desire to sell it. Good luck with your 928

Burgundy is great to drink and I lilke it in my '85 too
A wise man (Jim Bailey -- I've quoted this many times, b/c it is concise) once said "You'll either love it or hate it." IMHO Six months is short. You are in the hate phase. With the help available in S CA and getting set straight on the AJ mistake, it can improve; keeping this in mind, the expenditure should go down and if you lower expectations overall, it will not seem so painful emotionally and in the wallet. OTH, if the car doesn't light you up, no sense in flogging a dead shark.

I want to put in a slightly different perspective on the 928 which I never admitted before. My first car wasn't really exactly what I wanted and during the 2 years of ownership I didn't have true enthusiasm for the car. I could never put my finger on it but it just never drew me in like other cars I've wanted/owned. It ran great from the day I purchased it so it wasn't a lack of maintenance that drowned my enthusiasm. Fast forwrad to the GT I bought a few weeks ago and it is a completely different experience. From the minute I saw it to the first drive home I fell in love. I have a great deal of passion for this car and my list of wants keeps growing daily to make it perfect.
Can't explain it but maybe it's possible others have similar experiences and when it's wrong it's wrong and when it's right it's right.

Speaking as someone who lurked here for a long time before buying my S4, it's still a bit of a shocker to now experience exactly what's required to "sort out" a shark that hasn't been meticulously maintained. The two POs did most of the heavy lifting - TB/WP, steering rack, AC, gaskets, etc. But they left for me the stupid stuff that I've never dealt with before on a car - hatch squeeks, spontaneous electrical bugs, motor mounts, cracked dash, etc.
I can sympathize with your frustration. I would consider selling too, if things kept breaking at a faster pace than I could fix them. Good luck to you!

Few thousand to fix airbox straps and windows sure sucks! May i suggest never going to that shop again!
I also wouldnt exactly call the folding wing "coveted". Funny all you folding wing guys make it out like its ultra rare and thus desirable. Like how the 89 GT guys think its better then the 90+ because it has a mechanical LSD and not the vastly superior PSD.
All kidding aside its a nice price, good luck with the sale.

I've had my car for over a year and I think I drove for a month before I put it up on stands to make it a safe vehicle. I didn't do my homework and some days (more like weeks) I lose motivation but it is what it is. Sometimes I look at it and imagine myself drive around in my Porsche, something that I could never have imagined as a boy from a family teetering on the edge poverty.
I've learned so much in the process and I don't find my '84 to be really that complicated but it is fairly expensive. In the end its really the journey and not the destination that I'll talk about when I'm older.

Been that way for me too, spent some time and energy finding a really nice car that had consistent maintenance and the PO did most of the "heavy lifting" too. Since then I've been working out a bunch of little things like brake rebuild, clutch hydraulics, and shift linkage (all relatively inexpensive but more than a little work), fuel lines and copper washers, and a bunch of other misc stuff. I have new motor mounts in the garage that will wait until after SITM before I get to them. But working on the car is a nice getaway into the garage and I just love the way it looks...I like driving it even better. I'm just more sane with a toy.

911s until recently were pretty simple cars. 928s are complex. And the parts are expensive. Many have been neglected and have lots of deferred maintenance. The neglected ones get sold for cheap, and purchased by people who don't know what they're getting in to. This car may be worth $10k, but if the interior's all fouled up, the car doesn't run, the AC doesn't work, the vacuum pods are probably toast, it would be another $10k to bring it up to snuff.
I have a Speedster replica built on top of a shortened VW bug pan. It's reliable too.
