Thanks for the reply, The guy says they are real porsche rims. We will see.... I read that the factory cup 1 rims were 7.5 17 in the front and 9 X 17 in the back. Which I think are darn close to my 97 boxster base 17" If they were 8" do you think this would be a problem for the boxster? I know this is the wrong forum
I have the guy checking when he gets home, he thinks they might be 8 " and 9" uggg

There are some folks on the various Rennlist forums who are very well versed when it comes to wheel/chassis/handling geometry and may be able to elaborate on the effects of wheel width and offset variations. If your Boxster factory front wheel width is 7.5", an 8" wide wheel with the correct offset will probably have negligible effects when it comes to handling. I also doubt that there would be a rubbing issue at factory ride height.
If they're factory Cups and they're a good deal, I'd say go for them. If you don't like how the look or feel, you could most likely sell them locally a year or two down the road for what you have in them.

Yes, the knowledge on the forums is amazing. I truly thank you for your help, I wish I had the extensive car knowledge but I don't. I do have it for Fantasy Football and Stock Charting if you ever want some help

For the critical fronts, the number you are looking for is the offset value. Factory numbers between 67 and 70mm are perfect. 55mm is the absoulute minimum, so the Negative Scrub Radius remains greater than zero. The stable on-center feel and more importantly the effects of road irregularitoes on steering demand about 10-12mm minimum, and by the time you get to zero (at about 55mm offset) no NSR is available.

As you shop your wheel options, this is the Most Important Number.
