I just replaced the driver's side foglamp assembly due to an errant semi-truck retread. Needless to say the new one is MUCH clearer than the passenger side & I was wondering if anyone knows of a product that will polish the glass lenses or otherwise make them look a bit clearer? Thanks!

Eastwood has a cerium oxide glass polish.

You could sandblast the new one or sell your intact experienced used one and buy another new one. I have over the years tried to buff glass with little success. I am sure that it can be done but I have not learned the secret.

Yes, the Eastwood product. They make one for plastic headlight covers that the worked well for a bunch of the guys on the VehiCROSS forums (falthough I used a different product which I can can HIGHLY recommend... Crystal View Headlight Restorer).

The fog lamps suffer from sandblasting on the glass lenses, and also from oxidation of the silvered reflectors. The only good cure is replacement. Find some stone-guards for the new glass and maybe they'll last a bit longer. No good solution on the reflectors though-- anything that polishes also seems to polish off the silver. Maybe one of those "museum tray" things with the sacrificial powder or something...

Ive heard the Eastwood kit is supposed to work good. There is some sort of gold compound in it which is supposed to be great for polishing glass.

I think they have a satisfaction policy that if you dont like it or it doesnt work you can get a refund. Let me know how it works, i almost bought it a few times.

I have had good luck polishing glass. It is possible. The kit I used came off the internet. I think it was this one:

It came with a mandrel that installed in a drill. You put paste on that and spin it at high speed. You also had to keep misting the surface with water so it wouldn't heat up. It made a huge mess but was very effective.

What I have done is sand the lense with 2k grit weet/dry paper, then use a good compound like 3m (medium/fine cut) imperial or equivalent with a polishing disc on the end of a drill if you don't have an small air powered tool. Then use a light fine compound to bring up the clarity. Worked beautifully on mine!

I have that glass kit from Eastwood and I feel it did nothing. You are welcome to it if you like.

I've tried glass polishes with very little luck. As mentioned before, you may be able to get some light scratches from the wiper blades but I doubt you can remove enough glass to eliminate the pitting.

Thank you for all the suggestions guys. I figured replacement was probably the best option but was hoping that someone had had some success with some kind of polishing compound. The older one isn't that bad, but the new one is so much better.

Anyone need a used passenger-side foglamp assembly for an S4/GT/GTS?

Had the same thing last month, Bill.

Fragged the driver's side and replaced it. Passenger side now looks like hell in comparison.

As Bob indicates, it's not just the glass, but the internal reflector as well that contributes to the new look.

Unfortunately, these links are for plastic lenses. Our fog lights are glass. Good to know the plastic ones can be made to look nice again though.

Plastic lenses can definitely be improved with a good polish and it makes a big difference IMHO.
