Cold Hard start issue
Hey all I just had this problem start yesterday. I went to start the car (1984 L-Jet) and it would not start in the morning at roughly 45* then when I get home from work and try it again it starts fine at roughly 65* or warmer. When it starts in the evening it runs perfectly. I am only having this problem in the morning when its below 50* The car has a recent tune up with a new accell coil and I can hear the fuel pump prime. I also replaced the cold start valve over the winter once.
Got any Ideas?
thanks

No clue yet but what would cause it to dump the extra fuel when the car is cold overnite and then start fine when its over 65* This is what is stumping me because it runs perfectly when I start it in the evening....on the first try with no spit shudder or anything.
I am lost on this one....what is the signs of a bad Aux. air valve or a cold start valve. ( just put a new one on l few months ago)
thanks

I'm interested in this thread. My S4 no longer starts unless it has a small shot of starter fluid in the MAF. Starts 100% of the time then... and starts immediately. Also starts all day after initially started and run in the morning. New fuel pump and check valve. Acts like it's not getting fuel. Is there an adjustment on the accelarator cables that might affect a fuel setting? Giving it pedal while cranking doesn't work. Also, for about 30 seconds after cold crank and start it runs really rough and you can't give it much pedal without it stumbling....but after 30 secs. warmup, it runs like a 928 should all day.
Does anyone have experience with this symptom?

Stumbling when cold and not liking throttle is usually a lean indicator. I would check the temp sensor connections and take a resistance reading. These usually are ~3k cold (50F?), going down to ~300ohms fully hot. If its open circuit, it will think its hot. Remove the connector when cold, short the connections and try starting - if it fires up there is your culprit.

My '85 is doing this. It sat all winter with no additive. I'm going w/theory of fouled injectors and running Seafoam. Still not driving it enough, too many projects. Seems to have cleared but I will check the sensor. On hot start, it fires almost immediatly, like a weak combustion on the first cylider up, too soon, like a batter ahead of the ball, then it catches firmly on the 3rd or 4th cylinder up.
