Default Intermittant Lock Cycling

I've looked up previous posts on this topic, but they seem to address the opposite issue. Instead of my door locks cycling to the unlocked position, they're intermittantly cycling to the locked position. When they act up, the locks refuse to remain unlocked. Whether I use the key or the central panel button, the locks unlock for a moment and keep right on cycling back to the locked position. The fact that it's not happening all the time has me stumped. Has this happened to anyone else?

Mine did this once.

I put my key in the drivers side door and turned the lock right.
Then they stopped. Not sure if this is a fix for yours, but it fixed mine.

The door lock motors could be out of adjustment.

I'm having similar problems... sometimes when I lock the door with the key in the driver's side door, both doors lock, sometimes just the driver's door. It seems to have something to do with whether I've used the central lock. Any tutorials you guys can find on adjusting/checking adjustments for door lock motors would likely help us both. Please post if you can. Thanks.

Yes, but the thing that's puzzling is why it's not happening all the time. If it were out of adjustment, wouldn't it happen every time?

If the motor isnt tight, it can shift when actuated and cause an intermittent condition.

Mine was doing this. It would lock after you closed the door, kinda creepy! I took the two fuses out to stop it from cross locking, then it would lock the driver's side when i pulled the door handle to get in the car. The locking mech. was worn and it was rubbing and stopping it in between full lock and full unlock. I just had to play w/it to give it claerance. You have to take the latch out.

The issue isn't intermittant any more. The locks now always want to cycle back to the locked position. They'll actually keep cycling while the door is open and not stop until it's closed...and then it stops only in the locked position. Another symptom I've noticed now is that the central lock button only cycles the passenger side, although turning the key in either lock cylinder will cycle both door locks.

I assume my driver's side door lock is out of adjustment due to the central lock button symptom and the fact that I recently was working inside the driver's side door to replace the window roller. I probably bumped something.

What's the process to re-align the locks? Should I pull the fuse while I do the alignment, and which position should the locks be aligned in (locked or unlocked)? I plan on documenting the process with photos for a new tutorial web page. Thankfully my driver's side security plate is already out (never put it back in when I fixed a broken door handle several years ago).

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I wanted to add my "fix" for my door lock cycling problem. My wife drove my car to work yesterday and when she returned, the drivers side lock would not stay un-locked. She pushed the central locking button in an attempt to kill the rear A/C on the way home. After she pulled in the garage, she hit the central lock button and it would just un-lock (and the light would go off) and then cycle back to the locked position without stopping in between. She hit the central lock again I opened the door quickly before it would lock again. But with the drivers side door open, it would just cycle over and over until she got out and I shut the door and then it locked again. I tried various things, but in the end here is what I had to do.

I shut the drivers door and let the lock cycle back to the locked position. I then went to the passenger side door and un-locked it. The trick is to open the door quickly before it cycles back to the locked position again. This stopped the cycling, and the locks function correctly now.

Weird. Also, the drivers side door was the only one that was cycling up and down. The passenger side door just stayed locked during all of this. The only thing I can come up with is that she manually unlocked the drivers side door at some point after engaging the central lock and this got it all out of wack but she doesn't remember.

Porsche put switch contacts inside the door lock motors. When you open the door lock with the key you manually unlock the lock and the movement causes the points to hit which then the motor/switch then tells the OTHER door lock motor ..."Hey I am unlocked you should unlock too " and the other door lock motor cycles BUT if it is out of adjustment and does not get off the contact points it the Says "Hey I am locked you need to lock also " and the door you just unlocked The motor says OK and locks !! Sometimes the vibration of closing the door is enough to have the contact points hit and cycle the doors !! Often you will find that the motor which needs adjustment is the OTHER door from the one which seems to have the problem. AND HAVE A SPARE KEY IN YOUR POCKET !!! I got locked out of an 86 once broke a 1/4 window to get in ...(cheapest part)

I just pulled the damn fuses on the power locks until I have time to re-align everything.

So Jim, does that mean my passenger door needs adjusting since it would not stop until I messed with that side?
