if you had no timing ring on the flywheel it was probably an earlier flywheel which is a different diameter. You can try and machine the thing down to get it to fit if your dead set on the DD.

If you want to go with a GTS setup with flywheel and intermediate shaft and slave and master cylinder let me know, i have a complete setup that would include everything, shaft sleeve as well.

If anyone else wants this stuff PM me.

I am interested in your flywheel if it will last me a good amount of time on the car. Let me know what you can give it to me for
Don't know if it will last a "good amount of time". Depends on how you drive. I would suggest having it cut so it's perfect.
I won't be giving it to you, selling it. Offered at $395.00

So i have determined that the flywheel is from a pre 85 for two reasons.
1. is it had no timing gear on it
2. the diameter of it was so large that i could not get the 60 tooth timing gear on it.

the machine shop took the outside edge down to the spec of the auto flexplate and installed the timing gear.
Ryan, would it be possible to measure the inner and outer diameter of the flywheel to see if it is the same size as the 85-86 flywheel? The way it stands right now even with the timing gear installed correctly I dont know if the other clutch parts will fit the earlier flywheel. the problem with expecting proffessionals to know the used parts they are selling...

John, thats a good price for the flywheel. They are hard to find and i have to basically waste an S4 auto flywheel for the conversion which costs $100-$300 depending on where you get it.

In all honesty, to anyone looking to do this in the future, i would just buy Carl's aluminum version, it will save a further 5 lbs (32lb total mass instead of 37) and is just a bit more expensive then what it really should cost to assemble the hybrid flywheel on your own.

I will try and measure it but it wont be exact, i don't have calipers that are that large.

I have a brand new intermediate plate for 85-86 cars with the starter ring on it, let me know if you need one of those too $400 plus shipping

What you going to do about the limited slip PSD warning light ? also be sure to add a clutch switch for the cruise control or it will rev to the moon if you depress the clutch with cruise engaged.

These are very good points, the electronics could be a headache. I have no idea how many things are automatic and manual trans specific.

You don't need the S4 flywheel, just the timing ring. I got mine from 928intl.com for $50.

stan i know that, but no one sells just a ring. so you have to buy the whole thing, an S4 flywheel with no timing ring is probably just scrap

I picked up the flywheel from the machine shop yesterday. looks good. I am just hoping that all of the 85-86 clutch parts fit it right.

Well my '80 Euro S dual disk clutch parts fit on the 86 flywheel, so I would expect you will be fine.

Yes I did

Keep in mind i dont spend as much there as you do. In all honesty i dont call them much at all now that i am in Texas, Roger is just closer. Still, I get 90% of my parts from Sunset.

I understand their philosophy, but no, it wasn't available to me at least.

Point is, wether i remove it or they do, there is still 90% of a flywheel remaining which is now useless without the timing ring. So if you do this conversion you have to sacrafice an S4 flywheel. But there are plenty of them around. I dont think they are EVER replaced for anything, and at this point there have probably been 100's of s4's parted out, and there are only a handful of people going Dual Disc on 87 plus cars.
