Question What about the Boxter (just to stir things)?

Yesterday, I took a co-worker's 2002 Boxter S (B.S. for short) down my favourite local twisty backroad, and DAYYUUMM! That little 4 banger had some 'nads! It could pull from 1000RPM's better than my 928. a 6-speed stick seems like overkill when you have such a broad torque curve.

Granted, there is 22 years of engine development in that puppy.....

I would still take my 928 for a long-haul rather than the Boxter

Ken
PS say what you will, I still think the 924 is underappreciated. Not undervalued, just underappreciated.

man, you guys have been busy since yesterday.

I said mine was 2250. I don't know if Renos weight is that low. very possibly could be.
My peak power is far north of 280. My dyno / tuning day is this coming Tuesday. So, Ill post the best one, or the last one before I blow my motor. Tuesday will tell.

with all respect - if you were impressed by that you owe it to yourself to take a seat in a modesttly setup 951. Your reality will change.

I drove test drove boxsterS thinking I may buy one. What an underperforming car after stepping out of a mildy modded 951 is like an absolute destroy the boxster

As does the standard model. The hardtop variant , Cayman S is the HOTROD ! very impressive on a race track but for $60,000 it SHOULD BE .

I rode with a buddy of mine in his Boxster S and we took a Rennlister on in his '89 928. I can tell you that a 928 with a 2.54 rear end pulls like a freight train on a Boxster S. When we got to the stop light, we looked at eachother catatonically.

I stand corrected; never looked at one before, and you can't easily get a look at the engine.

Please also note that my 928 is a stock, US '80 model

See Boxster forum for tear-jerking, pocket-book raping, cylinder sleeve slippage.

This is turning into a Ford Mustang vs Honda Civic thread.
And there are 951s that can do the same.... And theres just as much ignorance coming from the 928 side of the forum too, sorry to push you off your high horse

Okay, the picture is clearer. You have 2250, and north of 280 in power, and just more on torque.

A lighter weight 928 would only need about 500 to walk you depending on his gearing. The corners of course would change things if your car is driven correctly.

that 928 in the video is not sounding nor behaving like an sc'd 928. Maybe his belt broke or was loose but he ws not making any real boost if any. Is he a lister here? Maybe he could shed some light here. My 928 runs 12psi and is intercooled. It is also a 5-spd with LSD. The last dyno on 9ps non intercooled was 456. I should be around 520 -550 now as I will dyno again soon and report. We have some bad-*** machinery in and out of our shop and my 928 gets respect from almost all the customers. Namely a procharged c-5 that gave up before 3rd gear and a single turbo supra (600whp) who learned about the massive torque of a huffed shark. I like the 951, but lets keep our Porsche cars in their distinct classes, and respect them as such. There is a food chain after all!

Monty Python's famous "argument" skit! Man I love that one.
Thank you for that.

Wellllll. My wheel Power should be close to 500@wheels. Will know for sure on Tuesday at the Dyno. But to be perfectly honest. I'm probably going to run track events at low boost. Around 360-400whp. 1/4 mile will be turned up.
Lets say I only put down 450 on Tuesday. 2250/450= 5lbs for every horsepower.

So.. If a 928 lost 4-500lbs down to 3000. Divide that by 5, and it would need 600 at the wheels to keep up. Soooooo. If your 928 had 500 wheel horspower, it would need to weigh 2500 just to keep up. IF I only make 450.

I was making around 400 before. But right now. I have absolutely no proof. I look forward to tuesday though. God willing, I don't blow the motor. Headgasket is more likely.
