Default My great day..(Heater Valve!?!?!?!?!)

Okay I've had an odd heat from center vent problem lately....which doesn't make sense because I changed the heater valve to the "improved" all metal design less than 2 years and 6500 miles ago....

The vacuum was perfect at 24-25 inches...& the metal valve held vacuum???

So I pulled it off today....hooked it up to a hose...GUESS WHAT...it leaks water...what a shocker!?!?!?!? ..... with the valve open it flows quite a bit...with the valve "closed" (& holding vacuum) it flows about 20%.....

Luckily I still have the "new" valve that Devek put in the cat when they rebuilt it that is still good....So I figured I'd just put that in...

BUT in true 928 fashion taking it apart was 100x's easier than putting it back together (Brendan you reading this?) Getting the heater valve in an hooked up was a total PITA it took me 2 hours......finally a combo of laying across the fender-engine and contorting my hands into stupid tight spaces I was able to get it done.....with the way my day was going I figured it would leak too...but it didn't....

Good news...no more hot air and the valve opens and closes like it should!!

Heres a pic of the EVIL heater valve

I put in the Dodge Caravan heater valve about 6 months ago. So far, so good.

Yup the valve I just put back in only has about 8k miles on it and works perfect.... I really hope it lasts a while....since it was such a b!tch to install!!! If it fails in less than a year I'm gonna

My S4's cruise control works like a charm!

On the other hand my heater valve is shot.

Thanks for the encouraging story on the swap out, I'm about to dig in myself, possibly tomorrow.

It really isn't that hard to remove.....but getting all three hose clamps on and aligned in a position where you can tighten them is the PITA....

IF I ever have to do this again I will rent a 10 yr old child to have sit on the intake and reach in there to do it!!

Brian to install the hose install the short hose to the valve being careful to orient the clamp so it can be retightend once its installed (ok to tighten it before installing) If you have the factory clamps then all you need is a 6 or 7mm nut driver. Install the rear hose before you position the valve into the car and then tighten it, then all you have to do is tighten the front clamp to the head and install the vacuum line. This all is assuming that you have removed the air cleaner first. It should take all of 10 mins to set the valve into place

Boy, Stan, show no mercy! I was going to tell him it takes me 15 minutes total but I didn't have the heart to do it.

took me about 15min also on my 81. I thought I must have cheated or something after reading the post. Mine was shot when I bought the car. It's now about 9 months old and all I'm getting is heat in the car so it's one of the things I've got left to trouble shoot.

I know, I was only kidding with my reply. But this is a very timely thread as I'm about to get in there and replace all of my coolant hoses and water valve in the engine bay, so lots of good tips here.

Guys
Way to make me feel BETTER...ya thanks!!!! :>(

Yes I know its SUPPOSED to be easy.....but like many things 928....when I factor in my limited wrenching skills it turns out to be a soup sandwich!!

I think its safe to say I am better at driving sharky than I am fixing sharky!!
