How to fit new driving light?
I've got a brand new LHS driving/foglight for my S4.
Nothing wrong with the old one, but I had to change the other side when it was cracked by a stone and the original one looks very hazy by comparison.
I know you can just get the glass unit and leave the rear part of the assembly in but when I had to change the RHS the screws holding the unit in were very corroded and had to be drilled out so I thought I'd swap in the whole unit.
The LHS was the same - I had to drill out the screws so I could take out the front glass unit and then remove the nuts holding in the rear plastic case.
Now to my question. How do I access the wiring loom at the point where the plug from the light unit plugs into it? The cable from the light disappears into a small hole in the metal and there isn't enough slack to pull out the loom and disconnect it.
If you remove the headlight on this side can you then reach in through the big hole where the headlight would be and reach the loom that way?
Maybe I should just disconnect the terminals from the new light unit and use the existing cable from the loom (I must have done something like this to fit the new unit on the other side).
Please advise - car looks sad with one eye hanging out!

You may be able to reach through the headlight hole - the connectors are mounted (a pair side by side) into retaining clips attached to the fender - they are very brittle with age - careful - they are plastic (though they may look like metal). if you don't have room - take off the wheel and the splash shield and the fender liner to get better access. I would do this rather than swap wiring - since it will all be much better sealed up if you retain the factory grommet (they are very well done).
Even taking the wheel & liners off is not so hard really... done it many many times. You might consider sourcing stainless bolts for the new glass reattach - I did seeing how bad the stock bolts looked (and mine not as bad as yours) - bad materials choice here by Bosch. I also lubed mine very well to ease extraction.

If I remember correctly I just disconnected all the wires from the rear of the light assembly (1) and then pushed out the grommet (2) and fed them through the hole one at a time. I definately didn't have to remove headlights, wheel liners etc.

Hi well i just got back in after finishing the job and I realised after I posted that I could do what bfellows suggested i.e. just remove the existing connectors from the old unit and re-attach to the new unit after pushing the grommet out then back through the new plastic rear. The old wiring all in excellent condition at this section so I was happy to re-use it.
I made sure the grommet was correctly re-inserted and pulled tight against the hole so it would be as good a seal.
But now the other side looks slightly less new than the new one - this could go on forever!
Thanks for the responses.

Sorry I missed this thread earlier. I removed my driving lights to clean them and it is as simple as disconnection the four connectors at the back. If the lense isn't pitted you can eliminate the fogging (dirty lense) by cleaning it from the inside. It's tedious because you either have to unscrew the adjustment screws or use a medical grade swab (Long wooden Q-Tips) to get access to the whole lense.

Prior to that I'd bought a lamp unit only (front glass and bulb housing section) for $240. That was from a well-known Porsche breaker in UK (Porsche-Apart) who occasionally have new parts for sale.
