Default 928 oil additives

I know Porsche does not recommend additives - believe its stated such in the manual.

After reading some posts here, I drained my Mobil 1 synthetic and replaced it with a 20W-50 Castrol (non-synthetic)...immediately didn't like the performance. The car seemed sluggish.

So, I decided to try an additive and after reading a bit about RESTORE, I tried it.

I used just the V-6 size can of RESTORE to err on the conservative side.

Well, it has made an immediate difference. My car has much more "oomph" and more readily engages with the kickdown than previously. Feels more powerful, no kidding.

Anyone else tried this stuff - I'm really impressed so far.

It's your engine... I wouldn't put that in my car. It sounds like the additive made the oil thinner so it could rev more freely. But thicker oil provides better protection at high RPM. Now you don't know what you have in there... is it 15W-45, or maybe 10W-35? It's an unknown, and that would make me nervous. Why did you replace the 15W-50 mobil1 with a dyno oil anyway? It's proven that 928's that do not take prolonged right-hand sweepers at constant high RPM and load love it.

I haven't used RESTORE in the 928's but I have used it before in other cars and I agree....they ran better. Not sure why.

I thoght that the restore products filled in the worn areas and created more compression mostly in the cylinders.
Did additive have a bunch of round pellets that went into the oil fill tube???

I have had several old clunkers in the past, and I've used Restore in all of them and the results were immediate and positive I think that if the engine is over 120K, restore will help.

I used it religeously in my 80 924. It had over 300K miles without a pan removal. AFAIK it is still out there and running. Not sure how it would react with the 928's aluminum block and cylinder walls.

Default OIL ADDITIVE

I used LUBRO MOLY-CERATECH two cans,and its the best stuff so far.

Precision is using a zinc additive at oil changes now since oil manufacturers are removing most zinc from the oils. They also used a bottle of something for lifter noise once but I am not sure what its called.

I've used Risilone for noisy lifters with some success.

I'll admit I recently have taken to adding some STP out of ZDDP paranoia, and I would try Riselone if I had a noisy lifter, but after it unstuck I'd change the oil straight away. Rebuild in a can, I will continue to avoid.

A while back I saw an article about Lucas oil additives foaming at higher rpm's. Anyone else see it?

One of the RESTORE distributors (AMETECH) had this explanation on its website:

"RESTORE contains billions of micro-particles of the proprietary formula (Copper 60%, Lead 40%, Silver <1%) suspended in a high performance motor oil.

[Note: It was blue in color, but transparent and clear to my eye]

The particles fill scratches, grooves and other worn out areas between the piston and the cylinder wall in the engine. The particles provide maximum natural lubrication due to their high percentage of lead even under very high temperatures. The action of RESTORE reduces friction and rebuilds metal surfaces, which in turn restores lost power and reduces oil & fuel consumption.

It works effectively wherever friction and wear cuts scratches in metal surfaces, such as cylinder walls, crankshaft and bearings. As a result, RESTORE has been known to cure piston-slap, noisy tappets and even fledgling bottom-end knock."

All I know is my car seems to run stronger than previously? I'm going for a drive - see ya...

Hmm, if it has that stuff in it, wouldn't it wreck O2 sensors and cats?
