Default Dilemma: sell or strip?

{Strip it} down with all of your {tools} and your journey towards the {32V} dark side will be complete!

I only have room for two 928s, and I have three...white ones.

Do I:

Sell my old '86.5 (1955), which although mechanically excellent, and looks OK at 20 paces, has Bondo on every panel, and the interior on second glance looks to have been redone in TJ? I'd get $3000-ish.

Or:

Strip the lightweight '81, which cannot be easily made faster, and I don't really drive anymore, reuse it's panels for the '86, and make the '86 into a 350+CHP, <2800lb machine? Part what little of value there is on a '81. Send what's left to U-Pull or Louie's boneyard.

Or:

Kinda sorta put the '81 back together, and sell it for cheap. Then sell the go fast stuff I've collected for it. '79 cams, early LSD, extra computers, ¥-pipe exhaust, etc.

OK...Here I go, trying to feast off a corpse not yet dead. Ahem...will you have a front spoiler to sell after all this?

BYW: your lift bars get credit but not near the total credit deserved.

The red interior is just too much.

Mike - thanks! The spoiler is cracked.

Ed - auto w/sunroof? Track conversion? Are you sitting on a dead 5-speed? I'd sell it to you if you need/want it.

Jason - CanCan red grows on you. It's sporty.

It is good to have an OB, if only for mockup purposes. And the '81 is already stripped down. I dunno.

Not sure what I'd use it for. But the 86.5 is my target 928. Specifically:

86.5
White
No-rubs strips
5 -sp
No sunroof
(like what's his names sweet 86.5 - lives up here in the PacNW).

However, I'd be interested in yours. I think it has a lot of potential. I miss my auto '85 since selling it.

My S4 is an interim 928. I've got a garage full of parts I'm about to throw on it and I was considering selling it after that to fund an 86.5 hunt.

And of course a trade of the S4 for an 86.5 is also an option I would explore, but I really need to get my S4 into a bit better shape (unless one of you guys want it the way it is - runs and drives excellent - drove it across country about a year ago - runs like a top). Could be a good way to get into a 5 sp S4 at a reasonable price - for someone that's handy with a wrench.

Dilemma: sell or strip? Hmm, Andrew stripped, you may want to check with him and see what his experience was.

Ed - potential as a beater, a superbad '86.5 beater, but it could never be made as nice as my new '86.5, again.

Gio - eeewww...

Having a car like my '81, with it's bare bones, no-radio, no rear interior, projector headlight look is fun to thrash around town, and not having a passenger seat means it can carry a lot, including doggies. But although it is superlight, has serious torque, and 2.75 gearing, it has a brief HP peak, and the brakes are seriously lacking. The same car with a hundred(!) more RWHP and awesome brakes is very tempting... More and more as I think about it...

Sell them all and get that S4 ya fool....you know you want it...just imagine the possibilities if you can get a lowly 86.5 to 500 hp...the S4 will net you just that bit more

Teleport the 86.5 out here.... I want to build a white and Can Can car for my daughter.

Not to hijack - but anyone with extra/unused Can Can red parts please let me know.

Q: Are you going to develop any more genius aftermarket inventions for just 86.5 or for early cars too?

Because having one 86.5 and one OB makes more sense then, just to have test mules for development. The "extra" 86.5 would have to go.

OTOH: If you are getting out of OBs and concentrating all efforts on 86.5, then sell all OB stuff. Then the beater 86.5 becomes the test mule and your pristine 86.5 is not endangered by experiments.

.....

....and I just like to type "86.5"

86.5 86.5 86.5 86.5 86.5 86.5 86.5 OB hey it's beer-thirty on a Friday already!

Dynoing at 310+ rwhp...it...it changes you...

I will most likely be making things for 32V, and the 86.5 floor pan/mechanicals (which S4 etc. enjoy ). So the test mule option makes sense.

I'm putting too many miles on the nice one.

Isn't the answer obvious?

Expand the garage.
