Default Needed ASAP - clutch line

Howdy
EDIT: 1980 928 STEEL LINE-SLAVE CYLINDER

I am in need of the clutch hydraulic hard-line that connects to the slave cylinder. The person who was working on my clutch was a bit careless and kinked the line. If there is anyone in the Vancouver BC area who could sell & ship me one, it would be greatly appreciated. The car need to out of its current location by day after tomorrow.....

TIA
Ken

Maybe a stupid reply but the clutch line has far too many curves & kinks. If you can then replace it with a flexible line, much easier when you bleed the clutch.

Default Year etc

Thanks Jim; you're site actually lists the part I need (1980 slave cyl steel line) for only $22, and I would buy it right away, but NOTHING in my experience has ever gotten here from USA in less than 1 week, even the BS "Guaranteed overnight". This is one of those "i needed it yesterday" time issues......

If I can't get one out of Vancouver by tonight I will certainly call you, but in the meantime I will have to arrange a tow-job, then change it out in my (arrgh) gravel driveway....

I had tried to get a custom hose built to replace both the flex, and the rigid line yesterday, but nobody I could find stocks the metric fittings. G'damn country has only been metric for thirty friggin' years.

ces' la vie........

We do list the part BUT I do not have the one you need in stock new at this time. It is not something which many people buy.

Uh-oh........
do you know of any replacement as mentioned earlier-replacing both flex & solid with flex from chassis to slave cylinder?

How badly was the line kinked? Can you un-kink it enough to operate the clutch? In a pinch you could make your own replacement line. If the flare nuts on the old line are in tact, you can cut them off and use them on a replacement line. Standard 1/4" brake line can substitute for 6mm in this case. If it is just temporary, it doesn't need to be nicely bent or perfectly routed. Alternately, maybe you could just cut out the kinked portion of the line and splice in a new piece using standard brass compression couplings, as commonly found in auto parts stores (again, a temporary fix).

I am presently fabricating a new clutch line for my '78, to replace the original low-hanging "rock feeler" model.

Take the line off, cut the part with the kink out and weld/braze in a section of pipe that's the same material/shape/diameter. Should be a piece of cake for someone experienced in welding/brazing.

Friend of mine made his own using brake line & a simple bender. He wanted to route it a different way on a track car.

Maybe its the area I'm in, but none of the local suppliers stock metric tubing, and as far as I can tell the available standard size pipes only come in too small & too Large.

I was at one hydraulic fabber that said if I can salvage a bit of the steel hose to connect the slave end, he could silver braise a connector top the 6mm pipe, and make a braided hose from that stub to the chassis coupler. Thats what I am going to try tomorrow.

Yeah, I 'm as mystified as you, Dan.

I cannot (locally, despite NAPA and other huge chains) get metric fuel lines, brake lines, vac hoses, coolant hoses etc. Ran into similar problems with my Supra and my 928 when I did all the soft lines on the engine. This despite being in a metric country, where all cars including "domestics" have been metric for DECADES. When I point this out to folks at places like NAPA, they say there isn't really a market for metric fitting (WHAAAA??!!)

If you don't sell it, they won't come fer gosh sakes......

Talking PROBLEM SOLVED!!

As per suggestions here, I decided to bite the bullet & fab up the line using brake hose. I could only get the next size up, so I had to drill out the compression fittings. The flared end on the slave cylinder was fine, and surprisingly a standard taper brass furl worked on the other end, though I really had to torque it hard.

So now I have a leak-free hard line, and the fussin' & cursin' can focus on getting the clutch hydraulics properly bled.
