Post '95 928 GTS Edition with wide front fenders...

A few months before 928 production ceased, Porsche started offering a special edition 928 GTS on the European market. It was only available as an automatic and in two colors: iris blue metallic and aventura green metallic.

It did have a very unusual feature:

- Wider front fenders with 8" front wheels - I believe this was otherwise only available through the Exclusive department. The fenders look like the regular fenders - no additional flares, just wider. You would not know unless somebody tells you!

Other than that, this edition model was equipped with:

- Full supple leather interior (including the whole steering wheel and the trunk cover, etc.
- heated seats.
- sunroof (not standard in Europe).
- Blaupunkt Bremen Radio/Cassette (why not a CD is beyond me).

Porsche issued a beautiful folder at the time, which contained 9 heavy stock cards - 8 with high quality photo prints of the blue editon model with grey interior, and one that gives an overview of the technical specs. That last card says: "The best reason not to drive an 'elevener'" ("elevener" is the nickname for the 911 in Germany).

Since I have two of these folders left, I put one on <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=42607&item=2414149883" target="_blank">ebay</a>. The other one stays with my own collection.

These wider fenders look ecactly like stock - just wider. You cannot see any difference on the pictures at all. It's totally stealth.

Are you sure Nicole - doesn't sound anything special to me - why would they just make a ltd edition with wider front arches? The other items you mention are on most Euros GTS's.

There is no mention of an option code in the folder - there might be one, or multiple - one for each special feature. The wider fenders and 8" front wheels were otherwise a Porsche Exclusive option.

Yes, Adrian, I am VERY sure. 100%, to be exact.

From the 1995 Exclusive Brochure:

X38 - Flared Front Fenders, made of galvanised metal; front wheels 8 x 17"

Cost at the time was DM 2,830 - about $1,400

That's interesting that the revised fenders were made from galvanised steel rather than Al.

Yep - that's at least what the Exclusive brochure says. I wonder what that does to the weight distribution...

Nicole;

Is this like the Japanese market cars w/ the wider fender flares?
Although I do believe they were 'noticable' in appearence.

Sterling: The original 928 fenders are aluminum.

Scott: No, these fenders look so similar to the standard fenders - you could not tell by just looking at them. I have a small picture on my <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=42607&item=2414149883" target="_blank">ebay auction</a> - you will see that there are no flares.

I am still wondering, if those Japanese versions came from the factory that way - I have a hard time believing that.
