Post Wheel offsets

Does anyone know what the offset is on the 928? Is it 150x30? I am looking at new wheels and want to know what the offset should be.. All help appreciated!

Abby,
The 928 International 'Wheel and Tire
Sizes and Offset Information Chart"
doesn't have the 85' listed but does have tire/wheel size/back spacing/offset specs.
What size wheels and tires do you have or, are you going to get? I don't see any 150x30
specs.
They also offered a tech tip: when the sHARk
is jacked -up to install the alignment tools - front end - and then set back down the car will be several inches higher than
its normal ride height . When the front end is aligned at this height it will be correct for this height, however, the car will settle back down to normal ride height after awhile and you will develope wear on the inside of the tires. I think Corvette's have to be corner balanced and adjusted for ride heigth too. You might want to ask one of the sHARk guru's how to do this. I'd be interested myself.

The offset for flat-dish wheels (OEM on a 1985 928S) should be 63mm for the front and rear wheels which are all 7" wide and 16" in diameter.

I don't know where you are measuring from to get the measurements you mentioned.

With regard to alignment, it is not advised to raise the car (especially the front end) when doing an alignment. Most shops will automatically raise the car, so if you take it to one that does, the alignment will most likely be done inproperly soon after you drive away.

The shop I take it to has a way of lifting the front without upseting the loaded measurements. Thus, although the wheels can be checked for run-out, as far as the suspension is concerned, the car has not left the ground. With this method, the alignment adjustments can be made and the settings will be true as soon as the car is lowered, and they will remain true.

I was looking for wheels on a web site and they had a chart that showed a measurement with those figures. I wasn't sure what they meant, so that is why I asked. I am doing the wide body conversion and will have extra room for tires and wheels. I have found some 18x11 at 928SP that I will look into. I have some body parts that I won't be needing, if anyone is in need of a complete front or rear cap, headlight buckets with motors and mirrors etc... contact me off list.

Abby,

Forgeline wheels will make you a custom set. I have the polished RS on my 928. You can run up to an 11" wide rim in back if the fender lips are rolled. Most of the wide body kits will give you, at least, another 2" width in the fenders. You might need to run a 335mm tire with all that new power.

Jim,
I am looking for something... I saw a set of O.Z.RACING called Vela but they don't make them for 928. Look at the B-style car on the Jacquemond web site, how do they get that DEEP look on the rear wheels? Is that something that can done with custom made wheels?

Supercharger... widebody kit... suspension...
hot and cold running Blonde's... Where will it end ...Who cares ? Go man, go....
I admire your vision and am truly envious of your resources.
List your parts and ballprak a price for a each and all sale. I'm interested!

Abby,

I checked out the B style body kit and the rims appear to have the wrong offset for the suspension. The offset appears to be a low offset like a 911 turbo, but our 928s use a high offset rim. Not a good idea because it drastically changes the suspension dynamics. You could get the deep dish look but you will need to run a 13" to 14" rim on the back. The car on the site does not appear to have 13" wide rims. Think of all the cars you see with the roller skate, Violet LA area, offset and imagine that is what this car would look like without the widebody kit. I was traveling I-20 in northern LA and saw a car that had the wrong offset sitting on its floor pan, in a road construction area, after all four corners of the car's suspension broke after hitting a large dip in the road.
The Forgeline RSs made a huge difference in the appearance of my 928. The RSs are light, strong, and are custom made for special offsets. The Forgeline company is very familiar with the 928 offset. Kinesis and HRE are two very good brands that also have custom offsets for the 928.

Abby,

I have 17X81/2 on the front and 17x91/2 in the rear but I will have to change to 17X11 in the rear for traction reasons. I'm running a 275/40 in the rear but will move to a 315/35 when I go to the 11" rims. A 13" rim with a 335/35 would look nice with flared fenders.

Jim,
I am seeing some 11" out there but I would like something unique.I think your right about the b-style car and I will stick with keeping the suspension correct. I do want 315/30 on the car and I have time to look so if you see anything new to the market let me know. I will be starting the wide body conversion September 1 and my motor should be close behind that. I can not explain what it feels like to be "getting close". The fun I am having building this car is worth the depleted savings account.... Ironically the last time I drove the RHINO for the day was 9/28. The next day I took the car to the shop for engine removal and it has been flat bed powered ever since. I have never redone a car from the ground up and being I started with a 928 it has been quite a challenge...
But you already know about that!!!

Abby,

Funny that you mention September 28th because I bought my car on 9/28/93. I really didn't think about the coincidence at the time, but I guess its kind of unique. I have been restoring and modifing my car for close to eight years and the process, as you say, has been a challange. My 928 has not been in my driveway for over one year due to my engine modifications/R&D.
If you are thinking about the B style from Jacquemond, there is a guy in Ft. Meyers, FL that has been trying to auction his complete B style widebody kit on ebay. The kit has run at least two times on ebay and it hasn't met his $2,000 reserve.

I am getting a custom kit that is not on the web site, similar to the Saturday Night Fever car with some unreleased designs. I have seen that kit on there but someone I know looked into buying and something went shady with the deal. Regardless, I really don't want my car to be exactly like someone else's. All of the "challenges" are worth it though, like I said before, if I wasn't having fun my bank account would be much fatter right now!!!
