Sean,

Hey, James here! What's up buddy! How is the D/FW crew? Gonna be up your way on the 19th... anything shaking up there this coming weekend?

I remember looking at some of the pics of this car and the exhaust is in a strange place... It just does not stick out from the back correctly. Probably due to the 5.0L vs. the 5.4L motor...

I emailed the guy but he feigned ignorance on the topic and DIDN'T mention it has an S4 motor. I missed that in the write up too!

Best to you all!

Hey buddy, I think you will be coming at the perfect time. We are having a good bye party for Ed the evening of the 19th over by Rogers place. I know I'll be at his place tinkering around during the day. Are you staying just the day or for the weekend?

The crew is good and keeps growing with members monthly. I'm sure you will get filled in on all the good stuff on the 19th.

On the GTS, the guy has answered so many questions about the car and seems to be pretty vague with any answers, we need someone with a bit of expertise to check it out.

Looking forward to seeing you this weekend.

THe car has been on ebay for 6 months. It acually sold for $16,100 about 2 months ago and the buyer turned it down and bought a so so GTS from my area for $20000. So that may answer some questions.

I just ran a carfax since I still have time remaining on my purchase. There is a mileage discrepancy listed from 1996. As for the car itself, just from the pics it doesn't look that good. Look at the profile shot on the driver's side. The paint looks dull. Then pay attention to the quarter panel. It has several little shopping cart dents in it. The shot from the rear shows the reflector looking like it's going to pop out of the bumper cover. Inside the car you'll notice that the back seats look a bit dry, and the console is starting to warp which indicates it spent a lot of time living outdoors. I'm not sure if that warning indicator/AC/lock panel on the console is standard on the GTS.

Overall, the car just looks neglected and let's be honest, the majority of us have cars that don't show the true mileage. As for the S4 engine that people are talking about, most people probably don't realize that the 928 got a bump in displacement for the GTS. While I wouldn't bid on it without seeing it, I wouldn't rule out the "5.0" as a simple oversight on behalf of the seller. The only way to verify it is to check the car in person.

To me the issues mostly appear to be cosmetic. That could indicate more problems under the surface, but maybe not. Some people simply don't care about cosmetics. I think the real issue is that most of us are surprised to see a GTS that has aged so much.

He was looking to buy it many years back, this was when Rennlist was still an e-mail forum and he was a newbie to 928's. When he showed interest in the car the "list" bagged the car, saying it was wrecked, bad in every way from the engine to the space frame.

Guess what, he bought the car and it was pristine, and he got a hell of a deal on it. That purchase let to what is today, 928sRus.

When you have a forum full of people saying a car is trash, and noone has actually seen it or done a PPI, then you have a bunch of people that have incorrect assumptions and the car gets a bad rap. Then someone just might get a great deal

<<I've not bid on it because of our DFW crew has had the high bid the last 4 auctions and has talked to the guy, knowing what he has in it, and what it will sell for.>>.

Sean: Not sure what you mean above. The DFW crew has passed on it, but you think it might be a great deal for someone else???

Technically, it is not a GTS. So would it be $19K for an S4?? If you are going to SC it, why pay a $5-10K premium for flared fenders and GTS brakes?

It might not be fair to trash it, but calling attention to problem areas is what this forum is about.

I'm not sure what you mean, the DFW crew has not passed on it, I did. I've already have 2 well running S4's. Re read what I posted.

Anyway you look at it, it is still a GTS, would an '88 with a 16v motor then be classified as OB? Think not. And yes, were I in the market, I would pay a premium for GTS flenders and brakes. Less I would have to do on an S4, look at Sterlings car.

Yes, the forum is for discussion, good/bad indifferent. The post you quoted was a prime example of misinformation and conjecture, with a very happy ending. That post also has nothing to do with this one for sale.
