Default odometer not working, ideas?

Today on the drive home my speedometer/odometer quit working for a couple of miles, then the speedometer started working on the freeway but I still don't have a working odometer or trip meter. The shift light also quit working as well. I checked the connections for the speedometer sending unit as well as removing and cleaned the sending unit without success. I searched on the forum and someone posted a similar problem fixed by replacing the gear in the pod. How do I get to and check/replace this gear and where is it purchased? Any other ideas would also be appreciated. Mark

Dave and Jeannie are supposed to be getting some gears in soon, maybe you can wait until SITM and be a tech session

Here's the gear that broke on mine (hairline radius crack).

I haven't been able to find this gear and even tried to glue it to stabilize the crack (you can see the glue in this pic), but it broke again (requiring a second dismantling of the pod -yay!).

I thought I found one through Vertex auto (eBay listing), but they sent me the wrong gear twice, gave-up and refunded my money.

Mine's a '79, and after rummaging through used instrument clusters at a local Porsche dismantler, it became obvious that the instruments in the cluster vary from year to year --so your gear is most likely completely different.

If anyone knows where I can find this little guy, please let me know, or my shark will forever stay at 74k.

I surely thought I asked you for one of these 9 or 10 months ago --maybe not. I'll take one --throw it on the pile.
