Default Carpet Dye

Does anyone know of a product that can dye carpet without making the carpet all dry and crunchy? I spoke to a guy at leatherique but they said their dye for carpet is only good for touch ups on carpets that are the same color but won't work if you are wanting to dye it from one color to another. My carpet in the car is in pretty good shape and I want to dye it to black from brown. If there isn't anything out there I will have to buy a new carpet set then. Any suggestions would be great.

if your considering dying carpet to change the color, then you wouldnt have any problems with a domestic replacement carpet set which comes only in black.

Call Rob Budd. I think his domestic set is $350ish and is supposedly very nice. His sliverknit sets are $600 if you want that too.

I would buy new carpet

If you want to go from black to brown your best bet is to replace the carpet. As you said, the problem with most dyes is they leave the carpet crunchy, and it doesn't really hold up very long. In addition, it's one thing to make a light color darker, but making a dark color light, is very difficult and a black to brown transition will likely leave your carpet looking like the color of dirty.

Rit fabric dye, which can be bought at you local super market, should work. It may take more than one application. I've used it on faded brown 924 carpets with good results.
