Fuel pump/Relay question
Here is the scenario: Car starts, but not immediatly. Now and then it gives me a scare , but eventually starts.
It starts after the fuel pump kicks in. The fuel pump relay is new as well as the fuel injection relay. The fuses is good and the filter is new.
It has been determined that the pump is good too.
The car is now in the shop and being troubleshot. Does anybody have a good suggestion I can pass on to the mechanic. He's an excellent mechanic. However, This type of problem can be a tough one to solve. Not only that; the clock is ticking, and time i$ money.

Must be something in the air. Just got my '85 auto back after similar problems. After trying some stuff, I determined it to be the fuel pump. However, it is my understanding that the fuel pump relay is not the only relay that needs to be up to snuff to make the fuel delivery system work as it should. The 928 mechanic who replaced my pump also tested and replaced 4 relays, all the same kind and all the same as the fuel pump relay. For example, the LH-Jetronic relay is identical to the fuel pump relay in my '85. My mechanic tested and found them not operating at 100% and so they were replaced.
Also wondering if it could be the idle stabilizer valve if its a starting problem. There is a recent post on that and you might also search the archives. Also, check my post "Fuel Pump Relay or ...?" of about a week ago. I got a lot of good advice. Let me know when you figure it all out. I remain on th lower end of the learning curve.
Finally, if I have screwed anything up here, someone who REALLY knows these cars will come in and straighten it (and me) out.

I too have an 84 S. When the car dies, do your power windows operate? I had a problem with the switch on the door locks which screwed with my alarm which in turn kills 12v supply to fuel pump and window relays. My 2cents worth.
