Have a 1983 and wondering if either a Blaupunkt Toronto or a Becker CDR23 will fit the car. Would appreciate any advise. Thanks.
anything will fit assuming is single DIN (case size)
I doubt anything will just plug in though, you just need to connect the new harness and your good to go

My advice would be to go much newer unless you absolutely want a "period look" - I know many new units woldn't match a 928 and are too "bling" but there are exceptions and all perform far better than 15-25 year old versions...
Pretty much anything will fit... so its down to what you want.

there is a Clarion unit that plays only MP3's and does so off of cheap SD cards. I forget what the number is but it has what looks like shark gills on it. I think its pretty cool, but it has no CD drive.
I was considering it before i went with the Alpine unit in the car now.

Yes - a Blaupunkt Toronto will fit, and perform nicely. A Becker CDR 23 will fit, but will not operate!!! It requires the fiber optic "MOST" system connection with the OE automobile in order to function (according to Becker folks I've talked with). Two becker radios that will work are the CDR 220 (early model 44xx face plate will not be readable as installed, as the 928 driver views BELOW the centerline of the radio, and the model 44xx is designed to be viewe above the centerline. I believe the later model 6xxx can be viewed from below the centerline.
Another Becker that works great, and is available relatively inexpensively is the one from a Chrysler Crossfire. It plays 1 CD and has great AM/FM reception, but may not control a CD changer.
The Becker CR-210 and CD-210 will also fit, and are viewable from below the centerline. But they do look a bit more "late 90's" , as their volume/station adjusting is done with rocker switches rather than *****. Stefan Weiss, owner of SW Stereo in S. Carolina, and an expert on Blaupunkt/Becker radios has always said "Becker is the best"!!
Good listening.

PS: I should add that I've had two Blaupunkt Torontos. One continues to perform very well after about 5-6 years. The other one had the LC readout fail in about 3 1/2 to 4 years. It may be that I caused it, as there might have been a very small "twist" to the radio chassis when installed in my Mercedes. Maybe Blaupunkt, maybe me!!! I've seen a fair number of these over the past 2 years or so on eBay with the same problem. Radio works fine, you just have to identify the staion and FM or AM by listening, instead of looking. That one is available for anyone who wants it for $30!!!

I just put an Blaupukt Bermuda MP46 in my 90 GT. The vendor provided a adapter kit so it was a quick plug in. Being a non-audiophile, it was a great solution for me, total at $219

Personally not happy with Blaupukt - Syracuse MP35 - 1st lasted 7mos and the laser went out; 2nd has been in for just over a year and the left front channel is gone (even though internal amp is not used).
Seems, IMHO, this model gets extremely hot and doesn't like the slight angle install level. Skipping has ocurred with both, even with the "shock proof memory". Likely model specific, but it has been enough to not want Blue-dot head units...fwiw, 5ch amp and speakers are solid though.
