Brendan, I had a crazy idea.

I've seen something called a "friction drive unit". It is basicly a box, with two cone shaped wheels on the inside. They are set so their slops oppose each other. Inbetween them, a narrow strip of metal is placed. The metal is circular shaped, and matched the slope of the two cones. The metal cam be moved from one cone to the other with some sort of an arm type thing.

My idea would be to take one of those units, and attach one end to the crank shaft. Have the blower attached to the other cone. Then have the location of the metal strap adjusted to govern the speed of the SC blower. Result should be a constant boost level, with the high efficenty and low cost of a SC unit. Maybe I need to patent that idea...

There are other varations of the friction drive unit, but that seemed to be the easyest for me to talk about.

My other idea would be to put a strong throtal valve down stream of the the after cooler. Ther have it controled to regulate the boost into the engine. Since I'll never have an SC that gets over say 70 pisa, the air is going to act as a nearly ideal gas. This means that Work idea=p*v. Since it's close to an ideal gas, the ideal gas law applys. Pumping half the volume at 40 psi should require the same amount of work as pumping a volume at 80 psi. Result? Hopefuly negeliable pumping loses to the throtal valve.

This has the added advantage that it allows the air on the down stream of the throtal valve to be cooler, than if ther pumping didn't happne.

Anyways, just a thought.

I would like to see this thread die now.

I'll finish it off with this final report.

I drove the car 35 miles today. This was the first time at normal highway speeds. It ran almost as perfect as it does without the blower. I climbed well over 1000 feet up Hawthorne blvd to the top of the penninsula down to Point Vicente back up then around again. The car never got hot. When cruising the car behaves as normal. The ARM1 shows that fuel is good, lcd goes red, yellow, green back and forth. When I open the throttle the ARM1 shows the next blue from the end meaning plenty of fuel.

Last night driving up the hill (hawthorne blvd) I hit a solid 5psi @ about 5500-6000 rpm. Climbing the hill was the first time I was able to hold the throttle open. There is not much room in the streets around here so my first few drives consisted of accelerating hard then sitting at a stop light.

If I accelerate hard from a stop it does hit between 4 and 5psi almost immediately and stays there untill redline.

Zero to 60 is a whole lot faster than before. I can't wait to take it to a Strip and a Dyno.
