Don,t understand locking system
I don't understand how the locking system works. I locked my car the other day with my key from the outside. When I returned the doors were not locked. When I opened the door the alarm went crazy. I had to put the key in the ignition to stop it. What does the red key button on th console supposed to do? Can someone explain how a properly functioning system works to me?

Welcome to the wonderful world of 928 locks...where all sorts of bizarre things happen, none that you'd like!
It sounds like the switch that instructs your alarm contoller to disarm has failed/or is failing. This is located on the end of the lock cylinder body. You can take it apart and try to bend the little wiper arm so as to get better contact, or just replace the lock cylinder itself.
Both doors should unlock and disarm the the alarm with the key. The red button on the dash should allow you to lock/unlock the doors while you are in the car, nothing more.
It is common for the door locks to "cycle", that is, unlock, then lock, then unlock, and so on. It is bizarre to watch, and occurs because they are not positioned right. It is a real pain to get them adjusted properly...I've been trying for years, carefully following the manuals.
If you cannot get the system to work right, then you'll just have to drive around with the red key~
