Well, I figure this should give us all something to talk about this weekend. While browsing some old favorite web sites, came across this cool picture and statement;
<a href="http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/boot/66/main_index.htm" target="_blank">Porsche 928 Driver</a>
[quote] Did you know that there are only two vehicles in past or present production that the Porsche company designed and built from scratch?
The Type 928 and the Boxster. Soon...their SUV will be added to the list!
All other models, or "types" were based off another vehicle type
<hr></blockquote>

Seen the picture before but loved the quote! I think I’ll go drive “MY PORSCHE” now.

Tim,
The quote is correct until it gets to the "All others". The 924 was totally designed by Porsche but built at the Audi plant.
Jay W. Check out my signature for a new addition.

The Cayenne was co-developed with Volkswagen. The raw bodies are made on the same production line as the bodies for the VW Touareg (somewhere in Eastern Europe), then shipped to the brand new Porsche assembly plant in Leipzig, East Germany.
I don't know who did what in the desig phase, but it might be an exaggeration to say that Porsche developed the Cayenne from scratch - at least not all alone.
Sorry, my friends in Stuttgart!

Ive made a subtle change to my picture Jay. ("YOU" to "I")
I would love to make that add poster size some how, its one of my favorites, right after "in Germany it doesnt compete with cars, it competes with airplanes" (head on veiw of a Silver s4)

Remember, the original question was…what were the two vehicles in past or present production that the Porsche Company designed and built from scratch?
All other models, or "types" being based off another vehicle type
Good question Nicole, guess we may not know about the Cayenne until some history has passed and inside design information is leaked down. Anyone from inside listening?
Gordon, Holy Crap! I’m heavy into Porsche research but the short answer for you is the 914 was an combined effort between Porsche and VW, VW-Porsche Vertriebsgesellschaft, an alliance struck up to make sports cars out of VW components. Its first product was the mid-engined 914.
Tony, You crack me up, fess up now, what could possible beat the airline “sausage & eggs w/pastries” breakfast. Never figured out how they get the silverware into those sealed bags though. Flight 88S4-9 requesting south basin direct for Las Vegas baby! Roger tower…cleared for runway 28 Left squawking transponder 4300 cleared through 4th gear speed “plus triple double nickel!!!”…Will-co!
Still researching…..
