Post transmission woes

Hello,

I was having some issued with my transmission and TT.

The TT was making moaning noises from the front, and the transmission was "clicking" from the Torque converter area, and it was shifting differentlt, or delaying shifts for too long.

NOw, last night it all went. The car will no longer move, and the motor just doesn't cacthing anything back there.

I assume that the Torque converter has gone, but the moaning from the TT is concerning me.

I wanted to replace this with a 4spd from an 83-86 car, and that would need a new TT, cross member, and Transmission anyway, so...

JimB of 928intl says that the 3spd may be more robust anyway, but I like the idea of extra gears for more speed.

Any BTDTs with the transmission going, or the TT moaning?

Anything constructive (or not) would be appreciated.

Thanks,

It might be worth looking at the couplings both front and rear before you get too involved.

Brendan,

Start the car and carefully look at the torque converter if it turns the Trans or diff, is bad
If not, you have a TT problem, remove the front inspection cover, inspect the pinch collar, Flex plate and TTshaft, if ok... Then inspect the rear flex plate and pinch collar, the rear plate likes to crack.

If you want your A28 professionally rebuilt, with 1st gear start, shift kit and all the updates and a high stall converter. Contact me at mastertech@mastertechtrans.com.

Wally - once again your help is very appreciated. These I will check before I buy anything.

BUT....

The car was moving, shifting, going backwards and forwards, but with a feeling of reluctance to shift. It was using all its gears and just before the car ceased to move under its own power, it correctly shifted from 1st, to 5k, to second....and then to third for a stop sign, and then first to 5.5k, and then when it tried to shift into second, it caught, but then let go.

I really think its the torque converter, but the only thing is that is was moving under it own power, just not shifting in the right places.

Steve: I am not sure i undertsand your first comment. I am moving today, but will email you here about your first idea, and privately about your own business...

Thank you,

Does anyone know if the gear ratios on an early 4spd auto (2.2 REAR) would be more benficial than a regular 3spd (2.75)?

Any help on the above is appreciated.

Thanks Steve.
So each of the first three ratios on the four speed are shorter.
