Post Windscreen leak or something else?

My '80 has had a bit of a wind noise (above 80mph) and a leak -- passenger side-- leak usually only appears at the high pressure no touch car wash (since the first silicone job). This problem ruined my leather dash and drips down onto the floor...sometimes going into the fuse box --luckilly only happened once and no damage (whew!)
I removed all the window framing and cleaned all the windscreen edges with alcohol then gobbed in silicone all around going halfway across the top and all the way down to the bottom left side. I still hear the wind noise and found that its still leaking. Is there another place I should be looking? Based upon the sound alone I'd almost say its just the way the framing may cause turbulence but the leak nails it. The framing around the windshield is the newer style with the extra rubber pieces. I can't figure this out and am concerned about the potential fuse box vs. water scenario that could eventually unfold with horrific result. I'm trying to avoid having to see a glass shop because I'd bet removal/reseal will almost certainly lead to a cracked windscreen and the need to spend many $$$$s for new glass. Any ideas?

no solutions to the problem here but i too have a leaky windscreen! mine is a sometimes not inconsiderable amount of dripping from the top left when it rains heavily. havent had it looked at yet but this job is making its way up the maintenance list with winter weather here.
cheers,

The leak: Better to consult a professional car windows company, that's easy for them to seal the window with black silicone mastic. But before you go there, carefully find out where exactly you have the leak - Stand outside with a water hose and place your wife inside and look where and when the water comes.
The wind noise: The upper frame list can vibrate like a violin wire - The fix - Mount this frame list with black silicone mastic - The window company can do that when they seal the window

Hi Guys,

I solved a leak on my passenger windshield pillar. Here is how: Remove or loosen the pillar cover on the inside. If I recall correctly, there was only one screw in the interior roof liner to remove. Then, tap the pillar cover with a rubber mallet. Or, grab the pillar cover, and pull it toward the center of the windshield. I used an aircraft plastic spreader about 1/8” thick to push the black silicon more completely into the voids between the windshield and pillar. There was enough of that black silicon that never dries to seal it back up. If you close that gap completely, the windshield cannot leak. The stuff globs up on itself, and easily forms hidden voids. You must fill those air pockets with sealer. If there is not enough sealant there, just buy some made for American cars. No need to go German, and big bucks here. Some of you may need to pull the exterior trim, and completely seal the gap from the outside too. Then tap the pillar cover back in place.

Here is a write-up with some pictures. <a href="http://www.kondratyev.com/porsche/windshield.htm" target="_blank">http://www.kondratyev.com/porsche/windshield.htm</a>

BTW… There are 3 or 4 tiny plastic tabs that wrap around the pillar fins, beneath the vertical exterior windshield trim pieces. Installing a complete set of those as per original specs. eliminated my vibration noise.

Good Luck,

Great info. thanks.....we'll see if I can find that leak on the inside piller area since I'm fairly certain the exterior seal is about as good as I can get it to be.
