Factory roof rack with two bike carriers
I have available the 928 optional factory roof rack main supports ...bolts to the two holes along each edge of the rear hatch opening where the plastic "bolts" cover the holes and clamps to the drip rails above the doors . Rack can be used alone or with the two bicycle carriers . These are new direct from Porsche , $275 for the rack and two bike adapters . I doubt we will ever see these again ...... They are useful to help haul " spares " to the track . Long pieces of lumber and pipe home for household improvements etc. May help justify the 928 to the " significant other "...See it is a truck too !!

Hey, I'd like a photo of that. It seems like a potential for disaster to have all that claptrap and a bike on the roof, but I do ride a lot. I guess hard cornering would be prohibited while carrying a bike.

I disagree. I've had a rack on almost all of my cars one time or another with a pair of bikes up there. With my 944S I drove like they weren't even up there, never had an issue. Unless your like my friend who pulled in the garage.....I'll leave it at that. Worst I ever did was driving to a trail and the trees were a bit low. That was with the Beetle.

Porsche rates the rack load at a max weight of about 80 lbs ... that is a couple wheels tires etc which means much less must be crammed into the inside of the car .

Jim,
I already picked up the rack from a fellow Rennlister a few months ago, but have been looking for the bike carriers. (Unfortunately, the crossbar dimensions don't match any existing aftermarket systems) Any possibility of a "bike carrier only" deal? That would leave the rack available for anyone needing to mount a pop-up camper or trying to emulate Tarek's Tool Box Moving Service. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I'm using the ski rack to carry a couple of extra
tires to the Bonneville 100. It can't hold as much
as the bike rack, but can manage the tires ok.

I was going to add a couple of braces to them later
so I could carry the wheels and tires.

Jim,
where was this deal when I paid $425.00 for the rack alone, without the bike attachments?
As Bob inquired, any chance I can buy the bike attachments separately?
And btw, I hauled my racing go-kart (+ 200lbs) on that rack many times with absolutely no problems

I've seen a couple of the 911 autocrossers carry more, though I don't know if I'd chance it. They mount a sturdy shallow open mesh "cage" to the rack and strap tires to it. If I had a picture of it you'd know what I mean...
