Mystery Items in Spare Tire Compartment

I was just in my battery box when this string came to mind. I looked and I have the same piece of felt in the same configuration. However the squares are attached to the side of the spare tire well towards the front of the car. Sorry no digital camera to take a picture. There is a retaining pin that looks like what’s on a mailer envelope that come through the hole and then spreads out to hold them on.

I have the same jack. Not only does it fit, I also have a ratcheting torque wrench behind it.
YMMV.

Here's a few pics from my 89 S4. The felt is glued in the front left side corner of the box floor, away from the battery box. My rubber pads are still glued down too.![](http://www.billsworkshop.com/P928S4/spare1.jpg)

I need to buy a compressor, not necessarily one provided by Porsche. Could someone give me the dimensions of the OEM compressor.
Anyone know a guy named James Hoffa? I found his ring in the batt. compartment. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

I have the "new" Porsche compressor. It fits inside the 15" and 16" spare wheels.
You may find it hard (literally) to return that ring, unless you're good with a jack-hammer, and the owner's of the Meadowlands let you tear into a section of the foundation concrete. Trick is knowing where to dig.
