Default Performance by year?

Hello in my never-ending quest to gather as much information about these cars as I can fit in my noggin, I came across this website:

http://vista.pca.org/stl/other928.htm

Is this accurate for U.S. model cars? If not, is there such a list that is very accurate?

How about a breakdown by year what options and standard features and whathaveyou is in the car? Does such a site exist? I'm thinking very simple chart like overview.

Any help would be wonderful.

P.S: The search is cool, but I'm only getting bits and pieces after weeding through a lot of posts. Call me lazy ....

There's a lot of bad info on that site. Try this instead:

I dont like the 928GT specs, the only thing i notice is they list 0-60 for a GT at 5.8.

Car and Driver tested the GT 0-60 at 5.2, and 1/4 miles in 13.7.....i like those numbers better!

Note that 80-82 torque is 348 Nm, but 265 ft/lbs is a WSM typo. The correct figure is 256.

Oh geez.

On a side not, is the maintenance on the 16V cars (US) significantly cheaper than the 32V?

No - but it is a little cheaper... and a few less big risk items (but if you maintained it well... no big deal...). Most of the 16v & 32v equipment is common - the engine was a big change but much of the rest of the running gear was only evolved slightly and on different schedules too...

Try www.landsharkoz.com and see the evolution page - will tell you much of what you want to know. Note that this is for ROW cars - towards the end of production (S4 +) there were few differences to USA cars - at the beginning there were more (esp lighting, emissions & engine specs)

Not too sure I have managed the attachment process but here is an Excel file that gives you some details on virtually all models.

"OB" (original body or old buggers depending on who you ask) are NOT any cheaper to maintain..."IF" a timing belt breaks...then yes they "could" be cheaper...but thats about it....

OB's do have less power and performance when comparing USA models to USA models..since Euro's are stronger...

It all comes down to style..do you like the S4+ or the OB style.....if you prefer OB's then I recommend a 86.5...32V motor with all the S4 upgrades in the old body.....

But like everything else it all comes down to $$$$$

Except the power!

Looks like those "programs" are basically just the VIN letters for each year.

Very good list. Few corrections and questions though.
- There was automatic gearbox available already in '78 MY. It wasn't available from the begining of the MY but it did come little later on. ROW cars with VIN in 1800's were made with it at least.
- '78 MY US model is basically same as '79 MY meaning they have same engines as '79 MY US cars. US cars used these engines from the beginning it seems even though some of the earliest factory documents do not contain those engine specs.
- '80-82 MY US models use L-jetronic injection already.
- '81-82 Japanise 4.5L cars used their own engine types M28/17 and M28/18. See http://members.rennlist.com/vilhuer/928EngineSpecs.gif for their specs.
- I wouldn't call '84 MY US model as S "2" since its officially just S. In ROW models official name can be either S or S2 depending on which market cars were sold to. S for LHD countries and S2 for UK.
- Were any '85 MY 16V ROW M298/M299 catalytic converter cars really made? AFAIK no.
- There was special low compression 16V M28/22 engine available in Sweden and Switzerland during '85-86 MY's. See above GIF picture and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_928 for specs.
- Did Japanise '85-86 cars use 16V or 32V? I'm thinking they were 16V but not sure about it.
- AFAIK '86 32V engine wasn't availalble in UK so those cars were only sold as S, not S2.
- List is missing '88 MY SE (S4 Sport) sold in UK.
- Club Sport was available in early '89 MY also.
- '89 MY Australian S4 has same engine specs as all other same MY ROW engines. 300 hp engine was used in '87-88 cars only.
- '89 ROW GT was available with catalytic converter also.
- There weren't '92 N VIN US models.
- S4, GT and even GTS was available without catalytic converter all the way up to end of '95 MY in some third world markets. They used S4 front muffler.
