Wink What repairs have you done this year?

Without the help of this board I would have been stuck on many issues. Thanks again.

This past years fixes on my shark in review:

New Battery, Had Fuel Injectors serviced, fixed the false air and vac leaks, HVAC system changed compressor-actuators-receiver drier recharged unit, cleaned evaporator and blower motor, cleaned radiator condensor and oil cooler entirely, corrected tail light bulb fuse blowing, Rewired several parts of the wiring harness, corrected rear defogger short, replaced two mini harnesses under the intake tubes, Checked and cleaned damn near every electrical connection on the interior ( I do mean every connection. Had the fuse panel in the house cleaning)
Rear view mirror rattle, Tach and Gear Indicator Light fix, Brake job, Installed new PCB for Pod, replaced all Pod lights, Replaced excitor resistor-new dimmer switch, Changed timing belt-tensioner-water pump, Front engine belts changed, conditioned front seats (Made a huge difference), replaced alternator, alternator hose, Added performance chips, new shocks, replaced seat switches, installed kick down switch, installed 7" headlight upgrade, installed drop links (PO damaged severely), corrected the rear hatch release, Repaired remote radar detector, installed a nice subtle sound system.

The most important part of the fixes was the pure enjoyment of how the Shark feels by the seat of the pants oh meter, or it could be the questions everyone gets... What year is that?

Geez, Dozman, i thought I'd done a lot.

T-belt, pump, tensioner, front main seal, oil pump seal, all 8 intake gaskets and sleeves, rising rate FPR, fixed the cruise, installed roof antenna, new slave cylinder, new timing pointer (that's important, y'know), 4 new Yokahamas, found a cover for the rear panel, deleted the defective rear wiper, all new vacuum hoses, new cap/rotor/coil, new calipers (front) + pads, fixed the high beams, the electric fan, the low fuel light, the alternator field excitation circuit, the oil level sender, an annoying whistle from the HVAC system, the magic blower syndrome, the washers, the sunroof, the passenger's power seat, and I've got a Momo shifter + boot on the way.

Oh - and a new Porsche crest keyhead.

Fortunately, it's love. Nothing else would induce this craziness.

OOps forgot a few more fixes, but never mind.

I think this will be an interesting thread. Hope it gets many replies. I am very interested in the results.

Sad to say, I can't remember all that I have done.
I have a couple of folders with invoices for parts, but the highlights are: Steering rack, A/C compressor rebuild, drier replacement, radiator R/R, T-Belt, waterpump, etc. CV joint boots, the list goes on. I've driven the car most of the summer without doing any real repairs. Sunday, I got the car out and drove it around on errands all day. Always puts me in a great mood.

I need to start my winter projects on the car, but I hate to disable it right now. There are still a few days to drive it now and then.

Good God man where did you find the time! Half of that sounds like my list of things to do, but every chance I get . . . well you know, first maybe I ought to take it out just to charge up the battery.

Anyway here is my list. First cleaned out the garage and built some shelves to make room and begin the shrine. Changed all the fluids except trany which on the list, all new belts 'cept timing (on the list at 57,000), chased away an electrical bug t'was killing the battery every 2 days, ripped out PO alarm system non functional, removed 16 years of continual sound system unimprovements, rebuilt & replaced HVAC system, installed H4 headlights, new sunroof seals and complete service to system, replaced AC electric cooling fan, repaired grill on rear AC, stop leak in windshield (hopefully), secured loose windshield trim, replaced damaged cowl gasket and reseated cowl trim, new sidewinder keys from Porsche, installed fire extinguisher, repaired console side backing, parcel tray, repaired drivers side window that came off mounting and fell into door, new cargo cover, does claying de-swirling waxing and buffing count, engine bay cleanup and the cold weather has stopped the new air dam installation, plug wires, plugs and injection system overhaul.

And thanks to so many for so much, I couldn't have done it otherwise.

Ooops, I forgot, had the rear CV joints done.

Plus 6,000 miles of fantastic motoring in as many months. Now how to heat the garage.

Let's see... In just a little over a year all I can remember that I have done is replace the motor mounts and cut the smog pump belt. This has been pretty reliable, since I drove it out from Florida to California. The smog pump belt was cut due to an awful rattle heard on the road trip out here, and it turns out that sharky passed emissions without it.
Pending repairs include basically a major tune-up (wires, plugs, gaskets)tightening of the torque tube pinch collar, and finding the source of the steam that ocassionally spews out even though the temp is fine (started very recently - bad rad overflow cap perhaps?).
I might do a new T-belt and water pump to be safe ( I know the t-belt is overtight), and hopefully some powdercoating while I'm at it. Oh yeah, the steering rack is a bit leaky too. I was thinking of trying the suggested rebuild kit from a different thread.

Cool

Well...the first 5 months of this year I had plenty of time off~

<img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" />

Anyway, I spent solid months in Europe in February and April. But January, March, and May were free. It seemed like I spent most of my free time either running, camping, or messing around with the car. Yeah, there were a few beers involved in the debauchery too [Don't you even get me started on the X rated stuff...]. I keep a "Maintenance Log" on the shelf in the shark's bedroom next to the shop manuals, and it has sections labeled "scheduled maintenance" and "unscheduled maintenance".

Paperwork has never been my strong point-

Anyway, I usually write down what I do when I work on my car. Major items committed this year that were NOT required included the addition of 5 point harnesses and low-temp fan switch/thermostat.

As to Unscheduled Maintenance, I had to fix an oil leak from the oil filler, which necessitated draining the coolant. I changed the plug wires too, and the fuel filter. I changed the intake manifold gasket [to no avail] in an attempt to fix a high-throttle miss. Reading about MAF contamination, I removed and tested this component, and replaced the K&N with an ugly orange OEM paper part. I had a go-round with the air conditioning in which I eventually replaced a fan switch [already noted], and I've probably pulled every relay on the board at one time or another in order to clean them, and the main plug under the hood.
Well, I tested the coils- though they tested fine I am still planning on replacing them. As to electrical WORK...did I mention spending an evening re-soldering all the connections on the cruise control computer?

On top of all of this, I have on dozens of occasions just popped the hood and looked around for something to mess with. And I change the oil every three months just for the hell of it~

Time well spent, in my opinion-

Normy!

This is a good post topic. I must admit it is a frustrating one for me as well, always due to my limited mechanical ability and $$$. I have, however, replaced my radiator with a brand new all aluminum Devek radiator, replaced all my airbox straps, replaced some but not all my cooling hoses I purchased a new stereo which I have not yet installed, replaced my heater valve, expansion tank filler cap and finally did some deep cleaning in and under the engine compartment(much more to go). I still have not driven the car since august of 2001 due to needing to get it registered/insured/inspected. I won't do that until I can replace my lower ball joints and some other odds and ends. Though I am often frustrated to the point of tears that I have a 928 (my dream car) and I cannot enjoy it, I am so blessed to even have one! and in running condition no less!
To make matters even better, I have all of you on the 928 rennlist to thank for everything you contribute to the list. Thanks!!

2002 became a busy Porsche year, where I got the possibility to do a lot of good investment in this old car – The result is also the car fells younger after all these operations in – Hopefully next year will be spend with the car and my wife in south of France – Without any repair!
All done as DIY work.
- All door rubber sealing
- Engine and trans mounts
- Underbody sealing (Rust protection)
- Complete new brakes
- Rims blasted and painted
- 4 new tires – Good Year Eagle F1
- New Porsche emblem
- Polish and leather protection
- Extra oil separator (Crankcase ventilation)
- New pressure sensor for cooling system
- New rear shocks – Gold Bilstein
- Steering rack – All bushes and gaskets renewed
- Engine complete new gaskets, Water pump, Timing belt complete, Valve lapped, Oil and water, Hoses.
- Wheel alignment
Yes no doubt, almost like a new car
Happy New Year

Let me think...

T-belt and a few other belts; water pump and all seals etc.;heads and most other gaskets; all relays; speedo sender; tyres; all fluids and filters; battery; some AC pipes; new clutch plates; new brake disks and pads all round; some new boots and a few control arm thingys in front...

Enough!! I'm depressed now.

Cool

Even though the repair costs were quite high, they did not match the depreciation on my 2000 GTP, that only required tires...

This is my second Porsche, my last one being a 911 Targa. It seems that the repair costs, are still lower than the equivelent depreciation on any new car by a pretty good margin. Does anyone else agree?

However:
-Radiator
-Accesory belts
-Timing belts & Pulleys, rebuilt tensioner
-Alternator and vent hose
-Tires, all 4
-All front engine seals, and rear cam seals
-Headlights
-20 quarts of Mobil One, w/filters

What will 2003 bring? Who knows....

Well lets see.. Oil changes , trnasmission fluid and filter, alternator, starter rebuild, new brake pads and rotors, brake master cylinder, brake booster, brake hoses, brake light switches, brake distribution valves, steering rack, oil pan gasket, motor mounts, upper control arm bushings, sway bar bushings, brake caliper rebuild, door lock motor, yearly electrical system maintenance, windsheild, anti freeze switch for the A/C, tie rods, lower ball joints, rear upper control arms, steering shaft bearing, ignition switch, Ford starter solenoid mod, transmision mounts, T belt tension check, air pump filter, oil filler gasket, alignment, rear tires, criuse control amp service, many new relays, and many other things I can't remember right at this moment. Did I mention that I love to drive this car? Even with all the repairs the car has been my daily driver and has never ever left me stranded. The knowledge gained from being a Rennlist member has helped tremendously. Thanks guy's, special thanks to Wally, Jay, Ken, Steve, Greg, Kim Krumb, Dave, Jeanie, Mark, and many others.

Cool

Let's see. For starters I had the engine completely rebuilt. It entailed replacement of: the oil cooler, the block, the crankshaft, all pistons and rings, all valve guides, all main and rod bearings, the oil pump, all lifters, the cam chains and tensioners, the cam belt, all seals and gaskets, all hoses and vacuum lines, various other items. Not replaced, but refurbished were: the heads, all valves, the cams, the intake and exhaust manifolds, all injectors, the water pump, the cam belt tensioner, other sundry parts.

Replaced the power steering pump and smog pump soon after they both expired. Then the expansion valve (that had been installed 18 months earlier) went bad, so it got replaced (at no cost to me). Also, the three year old adjustable sway-bar broke. The good folks at 928 International had it rewelded (except for shipping, at not cost to me).

Otherwise, it was an uneventful year.

Here's hoping that next year will be even more uneventful, for all of us.

Early this year was busy in prep for a Watkins Glen DE. There is a new twin disk clutch, motor mounts, oil pan gasket, GTS oil baffle, distributor seal, refill viscous fan (some day I will go to an electric setup), and polished some S4 rims (7" front and 8" rears). This year will be a new twin pipe exhaust to replace the leaking factory twin pipe setup.
