No offense, but that thing doesn't look very strong to me. I wouldn't crawl under it. And if I'm getting a lift, it's going to be so I can walk or park another car under it, not so I still have to use a creeper.

I was thinking about getting a lift.

Who makes a good one? The kind that bolts to the floor and can lift about 8k lbs?

I just bought a kwiklift, about $1550 delivered. Makes this thing look like frilly girly lift for a barbie car. Kwiklift is heavy duty and I have no problem scooting around under it. I can get it up in less than 5 minutes!

Challenger. They run about $4 - 6k.

I was looking at them too. Check out Eagle lifts and Mohawk lifts. I think they start at just under $2k, but I don't know about the lifting capacity.

No affiliation. (and I haven't gotten one yet, so if you find one, post your results).

Is Rixter out there? I think he bought one a while ago, but he had to do some work on his floors or something before he could put it in. Rixter?

I think you can get one of these for about $1500. Not quite so compact, but it appears much more stout.

I've been eyeing one of these. Anybody have any experience with them?

I got this one a year ago for about $1,250.00. It goes on an even deeper cut sale regularly (deeper than the indicated $1,395.00. I'm really happy with it. Solid as a rock.

Shipping is a big issue. I was able to pick this one up in Indianapolis so I saved that cost as well.

What are the pro's and con's of the two post VS four post style lifts?

Four posts are more obviously stable, but two posts provide less obstructions to the undercarriage making some jobs easily. The four post lift from the wheels, so suspension work is not easily done with this lift. Even changing a tire requires some other means of lifting.

Other than that, I'm not sure there is a big difference. I obviously like the two post much better.

Good question. As I said I don't have one, but I've been looking at them for a while.

I'm leaning toward the four-poster because:
* you can store a car on it and another underneath (not sure if this is an option with the two-poster, but I don't think I'd feel comfortable with it.
* you don't have to 'line up' the car to make sure the balance points are right like you do with a 2-poster. With a 2 poster you need to make sure you hit the marks pretty well right on, or you can have too much weight forward or back.
* you don't have to get on your hands and knees and line up the lifting arms each time you want to raise it (unless you're specifically lifting to work on the wheels)
* most four-posters don't require you to drill your concrete floor and permanantly mount the lift. A lot (but not all) of the two posters require this and that the floor is pretty thick where it's mounted which might require a re-pour and reinforcement.

These are just the reasons I've got and my perceptions. YMMV

Mike,
There are no issues storing a car under a vehicle on a 2-post other than fluids dripping. Unless you have a full floor on a 4-post (most do not) they also have the same problem.
