The Parts book (PET) lists 2 different fan pulleys- presumably one for temperate climes, one for warmer places. Can anybody tell me the difference please? Mine is about 90mm across, but car was originally UK delivered, so.....??

Max,
Nooooooo.... S's before S4 have a belt driven fan, you have electric fans dont you?
My crank pulley is ~100mm, fan is ~90mm = ~1.10:1.
Your ratios sound like crank to alternator?
Thanks,
jp

Yes, your right on both acounts.
I could tell that your car was an 83 euro S AT, but the question was open ended (so to speak).
Porsche did a few funny things during the 928 production run. The good news is they documented their changes and included the "Why we did it" in books that were distributed to all the dealers each year. Now for the bad news, these books are no longer being printed or available and getting very had to find (even used). I have a few from '87-'91 but this will not help you.
If I were you, I'd drop Jim Bailey at 928 international an e-mail ( jim@928intl.com ). He has a lot of good 928 knowlege to draw from.
