The Best Sounding Exhaust Contest
Just a thought while I'm sipping on my 6th Molson Canadian beer here, how about a contest to see who has the best sounding exhaust on here?
Now I just gotta grab my camera from my parents' place to start taping.

I just installed an RMB on my '88 S4 - its otherwise stock.
Oh my god, why did I wait so long! It sounds like a proper v8 now! I love it.
And I must add, Chuck Brigg's race 928 with a more or less open exhaust (Chuck correct me if I'm wrong there) sounds absolutely killer. Kinda loud for the street, but very cool none the less.

Dennis Szmeret here in Michigan has the best exhaust IMHO. I know I have a clip of it at home somewhere. He's got an 82 Weissach 5-speed with euro cams, headers, and a borla exhaust. It sounds like a really big sport-bike! Very European, not too unlike the Lambo's.

I'd definitely win for loudest/most obnoxious (on a street car anyway; John V's is pretty durn loud, too)... headers, Y pipe, 3.5" single pipe w/o cat, single borla muffler.
Still looking for a cat...

To up the 'anty' on this thread, I wonder if the award could be a year free membership to Rennlist. Perhaps the moderators could think about that one...

Alright... so it sounds like maybe we have agreement that we should have a best exhaust competition at SITM. We should see what DR thinks about doing something like this as it is his event after all, and I would hate to disenfranchise the local constabulary at DR's expense.
I'm happy to help organize the competition. Obviously it's a subjective measure, so we'll need a panel of judges. I don't think I have the best, so I'm happy to stay out of the competition and just be a judge. It seems to me the best time/place to do this would be on Saturday morning before the even up on the mountain at the Best Western.
We could have those that are interested in participating line-up in the parking lot and then one-by-one have them go down the street, turn around and then have them do a drive by up the hill. The panel can then assess the sound base on a few criteria (these are just suggestions):
* Volume: too soft will count against you, too loud will too. It needs to be in that pleasant range.
* Note/pitch: some prefer the cam note, whereas others prefer the rumble
* Shift points: How does that exhaust sound on a shift point. I think this is the mark of a truly excellent exhaust
* Burble and pop: This one might be hard to measure, but I think that classic burble and pop on decel also sounds pretty cool.
Any other thoughts?

SITM is a good idea, but I was thinking more from a perspective of taping your car's exhaust and posting it on here. There are quite a few that can't goto SITM.

Granted, not everyone can make it to SITM, but those that cannot often times make it to Sharktober Fest. Why not organize one for the left coast?
