After much searching and talking with DR and Carl at 928 motorsports I ran across this old thread and I order the parts ( without the $300 airbag defeat) from 928 specialists and will follow JoeDyer's guidlines...from 2002.
Any body have any more updates on this procedure before I attempt the install....Thanks in advance

Yes, the airbag defeat is expensive, so the warning system will present an error maybe every 15-20 minutes after canceling the error. Seems like the test tool is simple and if we knew what's inside, we could make a $3.00 kit.

Because the old wheels get cracked and worn over time?
And the big one for me:
Because the old steering wheel is the size of a school bus steering wheel and makes you feel like you're driving one of those early 70's Mercedes Benz?
And because a smaller diameter steering wheel makes the 928 "feel" much more responsive and fun to drive? (this one is huge for me).
Because there a lot of nice steering wheel design that compliment the design of the 928 much better then the original wheel - see Sparco, Momo, etc.
Are those enough reasons? Ha ha...

Yes, I installed it myself. It is not exactly intuitive forward, but if you pay attention it is not complicated. I did the non-airbag one, and included the adapter that AJ sells. The adapter was worth the price of the wheel as it extends the wheel location out by 3/4 of an inch and up about an inch. That got the wheel off my lap and allowed me to actually see the gages while driving. The plastic tab near the horn ring on the wheel, (which function is to trip the blinker off after having completed the turn), needed to be transplanted from my old wheel to the new one. You also have to get the horn wiring correct, and the connectors for the wire harness don't fit so you need to cut them off and install the correct ones. Otherwise it is a lefty-loosey, righty-tighty R&R.
