Default If you were me with this extra engine?

What would you do? Sadly I shoudl have seen this coming a mile away and knew that in no way was i going to be able to just put the engine in storage for a rainy day.

Can I SC an 85? the engine is actually a 86.5 US but will go in an 85?

I wasnt going to SC at all. BUUUUUT since I have this engine and it is out of the car. Why not?

What do you guys think? And what should I do to this thing to "do it right"

Discuss. Please!

I like DR's kit, will it work? DR please chime in!

The 86.5 engine is essentially the same as the 85, but has updated:

Pistons
Cam gears
Head gaskets
Intake gaskets
Dipstick and tube
Timing belt covers
Outer valve springs
Cyls ¼ valve timing
Timing chain tensioners
Timing belt tensioner, tensioner arm

Late 86.5 also have socket head bolts for the cam covers.

#1. yes
#2. yes
#3. works for me, but it is your car to do with as you please
#4. the list is long, but a basic rebuild before adding a blower is a good thing/ doing blower prep is even better
#5. yes--but confirm with Dave.

"discuss:"

if it's a stick car, I suggest looking into clutch upgrades---a slushbox can be modded too.

exhaust system, fuel delivery system, ignition system, etc, could also need to be upgraded as well.

too many folks throw on a blower and expect everything else to live forever without thinking of what the added stress does to the rest of the car......John Kuhn put two turbo's on a 150,000plus mile old (I think that was the number...) S4 and immediately trashed the clutch on the first dyno pull----think about it.

Whats the mileage of the engine?

If you do plan on boosting it I like the idea of throwing S4 pistons in it. They should be cheap but make sure you get pistons in the same tolerance group.

With the engine out and on a stand, i would consider refreshing the seals and gaskets. If your going to put 7K into the supercharger install I would think you could be doing yourself a favor by refreshing the engine now.

Roger has a friend/customer who's cherry low mile 86 has a number of leaks after sitting for 5 years or something. With that in mind, i would just reseal everything and then your starting completely fresh.

If you do just gaskets and seals you can buy the engine kit for less then $500. If you do a valve job (not a bad idea but cost goes up significantly) you would have a really great starting point for a boosted engine.

Buy Brendan's stroker crank and go nuts. Then supercharge it later.
