Mystery option codes
When I bought my 89GT I was able to identify most of the option codes from the 'data base' under the rear carpet by the info posted on various web sites. (And was able to confirm it was a GT). However there are still two codes I couldn't find anywhere, namely C26 and 167. The printing is quite clear, there's no mistake. Can any of you experts out there shed any light?

I believe the 167 code represents factory original Bridgestone Tires.
C26 I thought was simply an emissions code, like an EGR or a charcoal evaporation canister or something like that. After some more research, I find that listed out by many sources as M026 instead of C26.

Option Code 026: is a "Activated Charcoal Canister
Option code 167: Unfortunately I have no listing for 167, however 164 relates to Tyres 215/60 VR15, so as Jon stated it may refer to the make of the tyres.
I will check my specification book for the 899GT and if I find any more date I will come back to you.

I alos have a strange one I cant find - the first entry in the option list in the owner's manual looks like a lower case 'l', followed by 16 - handwritten in biro. All the others I can decode fine, but I cant find anything ending in 16 that makes any sense. The '1' has no european bar so I am pretty sure it is NOT a 7 . The manual lists LSD as an option, even though it is not on the factory order document.

JP OOPS! sorry about the previous post.
The options codes can be found on a 50mm square label under the carpet on the floor above the fuel tank. LSD is option code 220.

Gentlemen.
Thanks for your help. The tyre option sounds very feasible, possibly the charcoal canister too. I'm not at home at present but when I get back I'll check in the wheel arch to see if I've got one. Umm,what does it do actually?

Ok, here's a puzzler for you guys. Check out my build sticker:
Note that the only option code is C00 - which means "european specs" basically. Note that there are NO other option codes. The VIN, engine code, trans code, interior and exterior codes are all correct.
Optionwise, the car is built to the hilt - full leather including the dash, alarm, sunroof, side rub strips, sport seats, and lsd. The car is an '85 Euro for those curious about the Z's in the VIN.
Anyone have a clue about the missing option codes? Factory goof? Special order car (I've seen special order cars with option codes though)? I've asked the big 3, they have no idea. I haven't ordered a Cardex yet, maybe I'll see what it turns up.

Colin,
Charcoal canister is to absorb gasoline vapour from tank, until engine can be persauded to suck them in and dispose of them.
BTW, I think I found my ?16 Option code -
C16 - UK specs -this one makes sense, it is just a very badly written 'C'. Also as it is the first in the list, makes more sense. Didnt think to look at letter prefixes, but there it is.

Bryan....
Your Black '85 5 speed S2 is similar to mine....your car was number 806 off of the line, while mine was number 1526...
-I've no idea what "C00" means- mine doesn't have that, but mine says "C11"..... and mine has the full leather treatment too.
Is it possible to get a cardex for our European cars from Porsche?

Does your car have other option codes listed? I've seen pics of the build sticker for other Euro versions and they have option codes, so I don't think they're US-only.
Mine was built 11/84.
I talked to Porsche and they said it doesn't matter if you have a US or Euro. My situation is slightly complicated by the "proof of ownership" requirement for getting a Cardex. Porsche wants to make sure you own the car you're requesting the Cardex for. Which usually means including a copy of the registration with your ~$40. However, the state of MA, into which my car was originally imported, assigns a new VIN to the car. So my registration has this state-assigned VIN that has no meaning to Porsche. I think I can work something out though. I just have to get off my butt and do it. I bet the Cardex will come back with no option codes, just like my build sticker. But it might shake something loose. We'll see.

Bryan, I have a 78 Euro with no build sticker at all. Zilch. Nothing in the trunk, nothing anywhere - just the VIN under the hood and the drivers door. I was told that the Euro's did not do that, only the US spec cars.... could this be why you are missing your option codes?

Bryan-
The only option code my car has is "C11", which I haven't been able to decode. I think it has something to do with tires.
My understanding is that the leather dash was an option....and not a cheap one either. I don't have heated seats/ winter package though, not that I need them anyway.
-Florida's registration computer initially would not accept my VIN code due to the "ZZZ"'s, but the supervisor of the office was able to do the registration when I bought it by calling Tallahassee and talking to someone up there. My title/ registration has the correct VIN. The triple Z is probably not recognized by the MA computer.

The C codes are country codes. C00 is Domestic German Version. This number is very important when or if you have factory alarm problems.
I would be very interested in the 928 with the C11 code. What is the VIN. I do not have a listing for this code. Some countries such as the USA had multiple codes allocated, C02, C03 plus a few more. Different numbers may have been used for different types.
UK was another, C16 and C18 (that I know of), Switzerland another, C10 and C72. C26 means the 928 was originally imported into Singapore. Option M167 is, installation of Bridgestone Tyres. One other important thing regarding VINs. ZZZ does not mean Euro. ZZZ means Rest of the World. The whole world had VINs starting WPOZZZ except the USA which has WPOABC or whatever for the model. ABC is just an example. This is where the country code becomes important because it tell you (hopefully) the original country the Porsche was built for. It may not have actually ended up there but was originally supposed to,

PS: I should also mention that if you do not have a factory alarm fitted you will still have a country code it just will not be programmed into the alarm.
