OK, David, let us know whether or not the Redline helps the cold 1-2 shift. Of course, it could be that any fluid change would help that. When was the last time the fluid was changed?

This thread leads us to a question about how often folks change their ATF. I've learned over the years that driving style affects trans fluid life at least as much as it affects engine oil, and maybe more. I'm in the gentle-driver category and follow the factory recommendation about 30k change intervals. Folks with supercharged cars or doing a lot of track days change more often? How many only remember when it starts to shift "funny"?

You're all wrong. Put in 4 qts of synthetic, and 2 qts of conventional. Works great in the engine.
Sorry, had to.
Very interesting point, and i agree. For me, it has been about three times a year. But that's only because i've been fighting a terribly bad leaking tranny (caused by many things). However, i am quite confident I fixed all that today (via project 645.29a-22r). I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

According to the documentation I got with the car, the trans was serviced in January 2000 at 64,955 miles.
The car currently has 83,500 miles on it.
I think an ATF and filter service will make the cold shift issue go away.

I don't own an auto, IMHO 8 year old fluid is something i would actually get out of the car as quickly as you can. Even replacing with whatever dino type ATF you like should be beneficial to the car.

I am working through the car now. Just got it a few weeks ago.
Changed oil and power steering fluid. Also did TB-WP job and replaced thermostat and coolant.
After the trans service I plan on doing complete brake job including drilled rotors and replacing the brake fluid.
The car's PO did very little maintenance on the car.
It just takes some money and time to work through these cars after a neglectful PO.
To say the less, the car was very glad to see me.

Well, it is kinda of scared of her now.
But the fat lip is all better now, thanks to $15 of all new stainless hardware.
PO must have tore it off at some point and put it back on with the loose hardware rolling around in the kitchen junk drawer.
