Question Smog Pump...

I would appreciate the wisdom of the GURU's on this subject.

My smog pump has quit recently. Question #1 Can an electric fan be installed to replace the belt driven cooling fan?

Question #2 What do I need to do since my smog pump is inop., besides removing the belt, and pump?

Once again, Thanks ahead of time.

#1 Yes, an electric fan can be put on to replace the belt driven fan that came on earlier cars.

#2 If you mean what do you need to do as far as the way the car runs without the pump, the answer is nothing. It doesn't have to be retuned or anything like that if that's what you were wondering.

Dozman,
As I understood the smoke pump is only there for reducing the CO2 contents in the exhaust.
If your car can pass the test in US, then you can simply remove the impellers from the rotor, and use the housing for the fan belt lightener.

With regards to the electric fan: Since an electric fan can replace the belt driven one. Where can I start looking for parts to do the mod?? Want to make sure I am moving enough air to the engine, as well as correct electrical hook-up and the mod looks presentable.

With the smog pump, do I need to plug any hoses, or reroute any??

I appreciate all the guidance here. (PO, never took care of his Shark. Trying to bring this Shark back to life.)

I would to toreplace the belt driven fan with an electric fan. It would be greatly appreciated, If I could get some advice on what parts(what fan, etc..) I should be looking at that will supply a sufficient amount of air flow.

Some of the supercharged S4 and up cars have aftermarket electric fans mounted in front of the radiator. Even with the additional power, there's enough air flow with the fans to keep the engine temperature normal. I'd just measure to see how big of an electric fan you can fit, and then look at the selection that Summit or Jeg's has. If you don't have their catalogs, their web sites are: http://www.summitracing.com/
http://www.jegs.com/

Mike, Thanks for the info. Hopefully, I'll have the fan installed in the following week.
