I think you need to go watch (and listen) the video referenced earlier in this thread a few times and then come back and say that

Thats a very good question. For me, cars are still my hobby and the bike shop is my business. Yes, I could buy a mint 928S4/GTS or a 993 or a 355 F-Car or a whatever. That isn't much fun for me though. I prefer to wait for the car to come to me, or the right deal to present itself and then there I go. For whatever reason, a lot of times my phone rings with all sorts of interesting vehicles on the other end.

For example my '91 S4. It was on Craigslist and discussed here a year ago, although I'm proud to say I found it all by myself. The guy listed it for $11k with 88k miles and some relatively minor front end damage. I went and looked at it and for the heck of it offered him $5500 and he accepted. 1 year, $16k of parts and other folks labor, a lot of my own labor and I have what must be one of the nicest driving/looking/operating '90/'91 S4's around. And I had fun doing it and maybe the car is worth what I have in it but maybe not. Doesn't really matter to me. I'd much rather be driving this thing than any other car I could have for anywhere around $20k.

This may sound corny, but when I get a great deal on a car, I reward the next owner by doing every conceivable thing to make it as close to perfect as possible. For whatever sick/twisted reason that is fun for me.

Do you have any interior pix of the dash?

I woudl be excited and my thought would be even if it was me. How lucky and unfourtunate at the same time. Lucky that you found the car, unfourtunate that your love for such cars found you are car that is going to cost a small mortgage to restore.

Yes it will cost a small mortgage, no doubt about it. When I'm done, according to most of the brokers I've spoken with, the car will have value equal to approximately 2(A + B)

A - purchase price of car

B - cost of restoration

What was the unfortunate part again?

Mine wont be worth that much (A+B) even if I got the car for free.

Hmmm. Well, either you think I paid a whole lot for the car, or perhaps you think it will cost more to restore than I am planning for (I've budgeted about $70k) or maybe you know something of the market for an LP400S series 2 Countach (with optional factory wing) in mint, freshly restored condition that I am not aware of.

Either way, I hope you are wrong. But if you aren't it is still going to be lots of fun

Kie the most important thing is that you're enjoying the restoration. I would love to be in the position to purchase and restore a 512 TR or even a Testarossa but unfortunately I'm not so I'll have to wait and keep working hard to reach more goals.

Enjoy and please do keep us posted on your progress.

"(A + B)/3"

There everyone goes - talking nasty about my 928 again

Just like any car - they are worth what someone will pay...
I've been offered good money to back away from the $1,000 928 before I dump into it...... but what fun would it be just finding them...
that's like just buying the loto ticket and not seeing if you won

Nice looking ride - congrats

I am not sure he was directing the /3 at you.

Yours may be worth what you have in it when you get done, regardless you still are going to have a nice car that you brought back.

I think you are like a lot of us here, maybe with better luck and maybe more money (me)
It is entertainment for you and your lovely helper.

Kie,

Great story, neat find, and I certainly understand the enjoyment of bringing a car like that one back to life!
