If you don't drive it every day, it will make you pay!

Yes, mine's a DD although it will soon split time with the Miata. It cost me $75 to fill the thing this a.m.!!

Yea... 928s are weird like that. They don't want to be pampered like a Ferrari.

My car was leaking at the oil pan, rear cam plugs and valve covers before being driven daily. Now, there is not one drop of oil on the ground under it. I just need to crawl under there with engine degreaser to get rid of the old mess.

I daily drove my '83 for about 5 years with no other car as backup, although I did have a motorcycle as extra wheels. loved every drive, unlike most cars where it is just transportation.

I've driven my '86 daily for the last 8 years and ~70k miles and it has turned out to be one of the most reliable cars I've ever driven. My motto is if you drive your 928 every day, you will keep the problems away. And no, I can't trade it for your Montero, sorry. My daily driver is now my '91 GT.

My wife and I drive our S4 almost every day in the summer time to and from work (we care pool). Honestly I have had 3 S4's both have been dead reliable... knock on wood! I think the biggest problem I ever had with a 928 was a trans line that went bad. Simply replaced it filled it back up with fluid and was good as new.

How a car lasts depends alot on how you treat it. I always properly warm up the car before spirited driving, change the oil at the proper service intervals, and go slow over speed bumps or rough pot holes.

Default DD- you bet.

My 1984s started as a project/toy, but is now my DD.

I agree that driving the car to work each day helps me to stay in touch with potential issues. In my case, the car started running smoother after I drove it every day.

The other benefit to DD is that you actually get to enjoy the work you put into it. My Mercedes E420 is my backup DD, and I have one other toy jaguar, and the ever important japanese SUV.

Thats my plan.. I'm almost done with the preventative maintenance refresh to make my S4 reliable as a daily driver (intake, TBWP, RMS/FMS, OPG, Mounts, wires/coils/rotors/caps, fuel lines etc.)

Once the list is complete, I'll be daily driving the S4 (with a couple of spare relays in the glovebox) and selling my Audi to free up space for a second 928 in need of TLC.

I can then swap between them for any jobs or repairs that put each off the road for more than a weekend

How many here do not have a "reliable family car"?

I'm thinking about going 928 only....well...more than one.
Is that insane?
Wow - you mean all this time I've had it wrong?
I didn't know the 928 wasn't the "reliable family car"

I've been trying to make mine a daily driver for a year now since I bought it a year ago (88 S4 auto - 67K mi.). Leaks from oil pan, oil cooler hoses, tranny cooler hoses and a few other glitches prevent it (not enough time to do the work, not enough money to hire it out). Will try some more, but getting impatient. Never had this issue with my old '02 RSX.... Good advice on having a back up car...

Er... why would an oil pan leak stop you from driving the car? Unless it's like a hole in the pan or something...

It's the only way to go! I've had a 928 as a daily driver for the past 13 years and plan to continue so. Yes, my wife has another car, but like so many I haul almost everything in the 928.
