Default Help identifying 1989 S4 owned near Smyrna, TN.

I am looking at a 1989 s4 for sale in TN. The VIN is
WP0JB0924KS860199. Its NOT in the registry. Ran a CarFax on it and it was clean... serviced in 2002 3 times here in Knoxville at the local Porsche dealer. I called the dealership and spoke to the service guy who told me all that was done on the car. New steering rack, all new shocks, oil cooler lines replaced, regular service on trans, a/c, TB and WP at 82000 etc... Here's the strange part. The dealer I am talking to says the car has 121000 miles on it. CarFax and the Porsche dealer says in Feb 2002 it had 82000 then in September of 2002 it had 141000...thats almost 60000 miles in 7 month time period....does anybody drive that much? How much credit do I put in the OD reading being accurate then or now??? Should I run away fast? Condition of car inside and out cosmetically is very nice. Interior color is cashmere.

Does anyone recognize this car? Know the owner???

Well, there seem to be a story with the car if that is the case. Post the asking price and we will tell you if you should run away and how fast :-).

Don't you want a SCd 5 speed?

I could fill a book with the number of cars with bogus info on Carfax. Not saying it's wrong with this car, but IMO Carfax is a wild guess at best.

Run to the dealership instead, make sure PPI (including Trust Bearing inspection) checks out and buy that sucker.

The odometers on the pre 89 cars break all the time and can be changed with ease. I never take much notice of the odo reading until I check out the condition.

I agree. I bought an 82 5-speed last year and CAR FAX shows a 100K+ milage jump in 3 years (which is very possible). The information was recorded at a state emissions testing location. I spoke to the original owner and he verified that the CAR FAX information was incorrect. I did not purchase from the original owner, so he had nothing to gain.

Unfortunately, if I decide to sell this car, I'm screwed because potential buyers will always question the milage listed on CAR FAX.

regards,
Roger

For $7200 bux who cars as long as it runs and drives good. Go test drive it and go from there. I wouldn't be suprised if its snatched up before saturday, theres quite a few people flip these cars for profit on this board. Good Luck with it.
