FM transmitters are nice for hoping into the random vehicle, but the sound is far from ideal.

if you want to use an 80's radio and an iPod, then its the way to go though.

I swapped out an Alpine CDE-7873 for a Blaupunkt MP27 San Diego. I like the fact that the San Diego Blaupunkt plays MP3s and even displays the song title and artist. I have it connected to an Alpine Amp going into Infinity speakers. I'm happy with the sound now. In fact, it sounds better since the Blaupunkt gave me the ability to fine tune my audio system a little more than the old Alpine I had instead of having to adjust the amplifier constantly to get the sound I wanted.

I finally ordered a Blaupunkt Bahamas MP46 from SW Stereo.

My stock amp musta chewed on a cyanide pill cause it is dead as a hammer, so I ordered SW's amp bypass harness also.

I'll post a picture after the install so y'all can see what they look like in a 928 console.

It has a little bling-bling chrome trim on the face, hope I can get used to that....

The display color is adjustable to match the rest of the gauges, so that is nice.

Quote: How very timely!

I just upgraded this weekend to the Blaupunkt Hamburg unit and I'm thrilled with it.

It has bluetooth, USB, auxilary input, and CD.

Here's an install of the finished product. The bluetooth is awesome. I talk into the mic and the other person is heard through the speakers. Oh I love it.

Here's a pic of it installed

I bought it from crutchfield.com for $199. Was $100 off normal price.
Sweet. I am on that. Just what I was looking for. Basically black, with all of the features I wanted (blue tooth, usb, mp3, etc, etc), and its inexpensive.

This is a no-brainer.

Thanks for the tip.

I just put this in my 90 GT. I have the color set to red, but may go to yellow. I didn't think a remote would be handy, but it is better than reaching for the radio constantly. Install was simple.

My wife got me the Melbourne for Christmas; no CD, but that eliminates a lot of clutter. I have a 30G Ipod that plugs right up. I haven't tried the SD card that she got me yet. Sounds great.

Remote good!

The regular Blaupunkt steering wheel remote didn't fit around the fat Momo wheel, so I velcro'ed the credit card remote (pictured) onto the back of the steering wheel. The remote was $6 on Ebay so I'd thought I'd give it a try.
The volume up/down nubs fall easily to fingers reach and does not interfere with steering.

The total from SW Stereo was $233 with shipping and the harness cost included. Hard to beat that on a plug-n-play stereo.
I did forget to order the stereo removal tool though, so remember that when you order yours.

...and by chance, became available today via Crutchfield.

I like it...not too blingy, mostly black, selectable display color, etc.

The Bahamas MP46 came in quickly from SW Stereo. It took only about 20 minutes to install, after I got the stock radio out, which was a bitch because one of the PO's had rigged in an CD changer and monkey wrenched the radio back in place.

The harness from SW was well made and came with directions. It really was a plug-n-play deal, no wire cutting BS to do at all. I give SW Stereo my highest recommendations.

The Bahamas MP46 looks nice in the console and the chrome trim is not as bad as I thought it would be. The display color is incredibly adjustable.
By staying with a Blaupunkt unit, I feel like I stayed close to the original "feel" of the car.

Good news for me was my stock speakers are still more than good enough for my music needs and can easily handle the power from the radio.
I'm not one of those BOOM!! BOOM!! freaks anyway.

Here is the finished product in a 928 console.

I just finished a moderate upgrade by installing a more period correct Blaupunkt Madison CD, replaced my deteriorated stock speakers with some JL Audio units - a pair of TR400-CXi in the doors and TR600-CXi in the rear side panels and disconnected all the rest. An Alpine MRP-F300 50w x 4 drives them and a Blaupunkt THb-200A powered sub unit boosts the low end. I mounted both the amp and sub on the rear seat seatbacks and they fit perfectly. I can keep them hidden with the luggage cover, but I think I'll make some carpeted covers and attach with velcro. I removed the original amp to make room for all the wire connections, which is very convenient (but my pass side rear hatch opener switch stopped working during the install for some reason - the switch passes an ohm meter test, but no power from either red or yellow wire... any ideas? Is there a separate fuse for each side?).

The install wasn't hard, just took quite a while to cut the original speakers up to use the grills. Hiding all the amp wires under the seatback carpet took a while as well to make it look nice.

Once I get the car back out of storage, I'll post some pix.

Sorry, this thing is WAY TO GAY for me, rainbow disco lights? Wasn't the idea to appear stock?

AHH! It looks like you can change the display background to one of the rainbow colors, you dont have to have the entire rainbow. I was worried about some of you guys and your radio taste, looks cool. Its got a USB connection and takes SD cards.
